Holidays with child
by Trudiinnes
Looking to visit Paphos in June. Has Paphos got a sandy beach, safe for a 2yr old?
Any hotel recommendations?

Pafos does have sandy beaches, yes. No beach is safe for a two-year-old unless properly supervised, obviously, but there are no obvious hazards and the sea shelves slowly.
There is a large stretch of sandy beach at the end of Poseidonos Avenue, and another to the far side of the Roman site at the harbour (walk around the headland away from the harbour and towards the Tombs of the Kings)
There is no beach at Pafos harbour itself, and only a narrow stretch of sand along the coast side of Poseidonos Avenue (where many sea-side hotels are situated).
I have stayed at the Roman Hotel and the Alexander the Great. Both were perfectly ok, although I think the latter would be more suitable for children. I believe the Pafos Gardens hotel is also very pleasant.
Have a look at
www.booking.com
for hotels and, perhaps, at the Easyjet hotels page (although you will have to pay in advance if you book through Easyjet).

Try to find somewhere in Kato Pafos (the harbour area) rather than in the Tombs of the Kings Road area, unles you enjoy walking. It is a good 15 minutes or so walk to the harbour from the Tombs of the Kings Road (and possibly a bus journey, as the road is long and the tombs themselves some distance outside Pafos proper). The walk is downhill to the harbour, but uphill coming back.
There are buses, of course, and they also run along Poseidonos Avenue. But the service stops quite early in the evening, so you may prefer to be nearer to the harbour. http://www.pafosbuses.com/cyprus/buses/37 for timetables and info in English.
If you want to explore more of beautiful Cyprus you will do best to hire a car (Cyprus drives on the left) as bus services are limited and not extensive.

I have stayed at the Louis Phaethon Beach hotel is next to a beach and is children friendly. Also very popular with families. The hotel is mainly A/I.

Travel Tips for Paphos
E.T. Phone Home !

Not exactly a Favourite Thing about Cyprus, but.......
When calling home, use one of the many public call boxes. You will need to purchase a phonecard, which are available from any of the kiosks or corner shops.
These come in £3,£5 and £10 denominations. I have found that a £5 card is sufficient to make several calls home to the UK over the space of a two week holiday.
Coral Bay Beach
by M.E.R.V
Paphos is a great place for watersports. The Coral Bay Beach offers a huge variety of water-sports like scuba diving, jet-skiing, parachuting. There is also a water-theme park somewhere nearby which is open throughout most of the year except the winter.
The 'new' ancient theatre
by leics
There has long been a Roman amphitheatre in the main Nea Pafos site by the harbour (rather unsympathetically restored, in my opinion) but a 'new' one has been discovered in the side of Fabrika Hill. It's still being excavated (by the University of Sydney) and is absolutely huge (prrobably the biggest on the island). It is thought to have been used until the 5th century.
The best view is from the top of Fabrika Hill. A path leads up to a viewing platform/seating from where one can look down on both what has been so far exposed and the ongoing excavations.
Relaxing drinks, music and vibe
by Tourtech about Sense
Sense Bar is in Coral Bay. It is not on the strip and it is a mixture of locals and tourists. Because it is away from the main part, there are less tourists behaving badly here. the music is constant, but like a chill out room type vibe. More often than not, fashion TV is on the big screens without sound for background watching.
The serving staff is very competent and extremly nice, they all share service so two to five people will help you as the night progresses. Because of this, you can flag anyone at anytime and they will sort you out. They will never say "let me get your waiter".
The drinks are well mixed and the seats are comfortable. There are a lot of leather couch sitting areas in the lounge, and if you keep an eye out you might just get one. The locals know this and mostly beat the tourists to the prime seats.
They do serve food, but it is not remarkable. If you want a meal, go to a restaurant. This is a proper drinking, socialising good vibe lounge. And all this without bieng pretentious.
This is where you will try a local drink such as Zavania or Commandria. They serve the good stuff as bar stock and not the crap sold to tourists at the waterfront. A proper example of the local drinks. .... There is no dress code for this place. But realistically, leave the jeans and cut off t-shirt for the local watering hole.
This is a place where people do get a bit dressed up for a drink. It is where good friends go out to meet and talk. Maybe stay for the night, maybe move on to a club. It is a relaxed, semi-upscale atmosphere and yet it is still fun.
Set menus for CYP6.95
by kayleigh06 about Viva Cyprus
The food here was lovely! On our first night here we headed for this place, and we thought that after eating here nowhere could beat the food!
On the set menu's you could get a 3 course meal, and you just choose what you want, and then you pay CYP6.95 for all 3 meals! I had a Lamb Kleftiko, and bearing in mind (if you're lucky) whenever you have a lamb dish its usually a couple of small lamb chops which is usually mostly bone, well... here its a mountain of Lamb! And the plates were massive aswell!
