paphos bus serice

by jackien

Does anyone know if there is a public bus from Paphos airport to the harbour area of Paphos? We are visiting Paphos from 6/11/2010. Many thanks Jackie

As far as I am aware (and unless things have changed since my last visit) there are no buses from or to Pafos airport. You'll need to take a taxi. It's not too far....around 15/20 minutes or so to Kato Pafos (the harbour area).

Check out this thread here:

and also:

This is what I have found....Usually they stop during winter so I believe it won't be a problem just to pick a taxi as it is not very far.

I just returned from Cyprus - it was so hot and beautiful weather. I didn't stay at Paphos, but all I can tell you is that the bus service in Cyprus sucks. Buses have no real schedules, at least not in Larnaca and neither in Nicosia, the capital. If you ask three people, including drivers, they will give you three different answers as when buses go. Sometimes you will wait 2 hours even. And the bus drivers still don't know when the bus will leave or arrive.
The best thing is not to rely too much on them! The system is way more flexible and simpler with mini-coaches (dolmus) in North Cyprus!
All the best!

After reading what the above member wrote about buses in Cyprus, I believe bus service will be worse during winter time, so it is better to get a taxi.
In fact I am planning a trip to Cyprus these days and I am invited to a wedding there, so I will have some experience by the time I get back so that I can inform VT members.
My God!...I was so disappointed to hear about bus service of being such bad this summer

I fear it won´t be any better - neither in winter nor in summer. I am sorry to say this, but it´s the mentality of people. I live in a 2 million capital and it is possible to manage a bus system that works. The bus system also works quite well in North Cyprus with the Kombos Service. But I´ve never experienced such a lazy and indifferent attitude as the Greek Cypriot bus drivers had. They just don´t care and sometimes they forget to stick to the schedules. One of them told me, "Go to the station, I´ll come in 5 minutes" - then I waited one hour, to be told by another bus driver that the next bus would come only in the afternoon.
It´s the mentality of the locals, unfortunately. (Malta has a similar geography
to Cyprus and the bus service there works fine)

Cyprus has nice things to see and a lot of history - transport is cheap, but
unfortunately very, very unreliable!

Travel Tips for Paphos

Paphos ve Larnaca in Winter

by kensmessenger

Well my advice as its December would be to find a hotel in Larnaca. Paphos tends to be a holiday destination and Larnaca has all the advantages of a City and is much more fun in the winter. Also you have the BIG ADVANTAGE of not having that long drive to Paphos when you get off the plane after a 5 hour flight and probably a 2/3 hour stay in a uk airport.

Carved altars

by leics

Most people visiting the Tombs of the Kings will only bother with the main tombs, but it's worth exploring some of the smaller ones not mentioned in the guidebook. These, I think, give a better impression of what the site was originally like.

The two Roman altars carved into the side of this tomb (badly damaged by quarrying) are typically Roman in style, and lie above the 'loculi' where bodies would have been placed.

There are other carvings dotted about the site, so it's worth going off the main paths to explore.

Worst place to go...

by paphoshomepage about Evis Pub

Do not be fooled by the inviting exterior or cheesy tunes coming from within. This is not a pub, it is an undercover brothel for the owner 'Evis'. Unfortunately, he has an uncontrollable obsession for hitting on and harrassing his female guests as they attempt to innocently take a trip to the downstairs loo! And believe us, age, race, religion, looks, marital status and all that means absolutely nothing to him! Go to this pub at your own risk. Girls... Stay in pairs where ever possible. Men... Don't let your teenage daughters, wifes and mother in-laws out of your site! Anything...!!

Lovely Garlic Steak and Chicken

by piersend about Palm Grove

The local food here is approx. the same price as the other Restaurants, but here they do some more expensive dishes-the steaks were fantastic (pricey though). They use Scottish beef. Nice place to eat but get here early because the music from Kleos Cocktail Bar next door gets a bit loud later! Garlic Steak.
Garlic Chicken Royale.
