Great place to stay ...will return

    by

Even though we had an inland view it was still a good room. The room was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. There was a great range of choice for breakfast and in a good location to walk or bus to a different place to eat every evening. The Hotel staff were all friendly and always on hand to bring a cocktail or two. Right on the beach so we had a choice of pool or sea or both. There is a coastal path which runs in front of the Hotels to the harbour.
We had a great stay and plan to return. We did agree that is not really the place for teens but Paphos does have plenty for everyone to do.

Unique Quality: Pools & dinning areas. Views out to sea and from a boat looking into the hotel.

Directions: 20 mins from Airport near to the Waterpark

Wonderful relaxing holiday at the Athena Beach

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at the Athena Beach for one week and I cannot fault the hotel. It is extremely clean & beautifully presented. The staff are very helpful and the rooms wonderful. The service is 5* and cannot be faulted. Breakfast is fantastic. A buffett style event with loads to choose from. All very fresh and hot. The swimming pools are amazing and the lawns leading to the beach are beautiful. I have never enjoyed relaxing on a sunbed so much! A real break. There are a number of very good restaurants nearby (along the same road). We especially enjoyed 'Ficardo'. Take the time to go in and enjoy this amazing little family run restaurant. Lunchtimes are the best! The freshest food and the friendliest of service. The Italian further along is also very very good. This is one of the nicest weeks holiday I have ever had. Truly relaxing in beautiful surroundings. I would go back to this hotel without hesitation.

Book Your Wedding At The Athena Beach!!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I have just returned from our brilliant holiday at the Athena Beach. It was'nt just any holiday, because we got married while we were over there.

The hotel and the wedding co-odinator could'nt do enough for us and we were treated like royalty the whole time we were there. If anybody is thinking of getting married abroad, then this is the place to go.

We decided that we did not want to go out of the resort for the wedding, so we had the service in the hotel. The room was spectacular, they had decorated it in white ballons, white satin seats, and flowers.

The service it self was nice and short, and afterwards we went to have photos on the beach and cocktails in the bar. When the evening came they took us down by the pool and we had our four course dinner which was wonderful.

If anyone is worried about the quality of photos, DONT. They were perfect and taken by Photo Papis and Son. We also had the video which was great.

The hotel itself was great, clean and tidy and the managment are lovely. The girls that serve the dinner are very sultry, but apart from that the food at the hotel is lovely.

We are planning to go again next year on our anniversary, and I would definately recommend anyone to go to this hotel.

Excellent, friendly hotel.

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Athena Beach Hotel and can honestly say there was absolutely nothing to complain about! The hotel is well positioned for the beach/town and the food was of a very high standard with a vast choice at both breakfast and dinner. The staff are friendly, efficient and welcoming and the bedrooms were well presented with a fridge in each room for personal use. All of the puplic areas: bars, restauarants, pool areas and gardens were impeccably clean. The chioce of three heated pools (one indoors), two cold water and a slide kept the whole family happy and despite being full the hotel never felt overcrowded. I would definatley return to this hotel!

just returned from a great holiday

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from a week at the Athena Beach Hotel. It was a lovely holiday, the hotel was of a high standard with well mannered, helpful staff and excellent facilities. The tennis was a bonus and was free and the children loved the choice of 4 pools. Beautiful, well maintained grounds - the hotel looked better kept than any others we viewed from the outside on the beach walK to Paphos.
We had a side sea view room which was ok, but would pay the extra for a full sea view next time. We were half board on account of the children, who loved the food. Personally, I became fed up with the buffet, so on balance think that the option to eat half board for three nights only would be perfect.
Happy hour was good and the hotel mini market was well stocked. The beds are hard but we learned at the end of the holiday that you can get extra mattresses to soften them
This was a lovely spot for the time of year. Personally I would not want to go in high season as it is a big hotel. However it was lovely when we went and I would go again!

Great hotel - would go back tomorrow!

Have just returned from a week at the Athena Beach. This was my first visit to Cyprus and would definitely go back. The hotel is excellent - very clean, helpful and friendly staff and the food is excellent. Breakfast consists of a HUGE buffet containing everything you can think of. Dinner is the same with so may options to choose from, a diet is the next thing on the agenda!! The hotel has lots to offer and is in an excellent location. We paid extra for a sea view room (as recommended by someone on this site) and would definitely recommend to all. We ate out once at a restaurant just outside Paphos called Seven St George - if you get a chance, GO THERE for authentic Cypriot meze and a superb atmosphere.

Ideal Spring Break

by TripAdvisor Member Wigeon

I fully agree with the views of the most recent reviewers who have stayed at the Athena Beach. It is a splendid hotel whose staff take an obvious pride in making sure it stays that way. There are more than enough amenities to keep guests entertained and amused, but relaxing near the pools and soaking up the sun was a clear favourite for many during our week there (13-20 May). A seaview room is preferable, but we'd opted for a mountain view room that was situated over the hotel's main entrance (noisy coaches coming and going at odd times and the nearby building site were minor irritants). Beware, builders do start work early in Cyprus. The only slight grumble we had centred on our decision to opt for a take-away pizza one night and then to be told by the hotel manager that we couldn't eat it in our room. The signs say no round the pools and beach (fair enough given the number of stray cats in evidence) but nothing was said about your own room as far as we could tell. This attitude seemed a little mean spirited to us, but it's worth noting for next time.

Mixed experience

by TripAdvisor Member lemonlemur

Stayed at the Athena Beach for one week at the beginning of June. We went for a week of relaxation, on recommendation, and booked a sea view room, which was fine although I would take your own tea and coffee provisions as the ones provided free are dire. This in itself felt like an unnecessary economy measure although, of course, you can always purchase tea, coffee and creamer in the hotel shop. There were no decent products for shower, hair washing etc., provided. The bed was hard as were the pillows and the balconly light seemed to be on a centralised timer, so get a candle if you want to sit out late. Robes are provided but not washed as per towels during a one week stay - stingy I thought. Dry cleaning is available at a charge. Overall I felt that the best thing about this hotel were the pool areas, which were split into sections with jacuzzis and more shallow areas for children; the pool in itself was not too deep. The pool is not heated and so can be a bit cold before mid-day. There are lots of sunbeds around these areas in addition to the gardens (grass quite long) and on the beach. Like a previous reviewer I was slightly bemused by an apparent trend for signing out towels and 'claiming' sunbeds early in the day. In fact, on the day we were leaving I witnessed someone putting towels on sunbeds at 05:45 for some bizarre reason ? ! This happens especially around the pool area. Guests were predominantly from the UK.

The hotel is located not far from Kato Paphos, which is easy to reach by foot either via the coastal path or by road. Along the road there are many and varied restaurants and bars to suit most tastes. We only ate breakfast and occasionally lunch at the hotel. Breakfast was fine although very busy after 9am and it seemed quite strange to have people smoking at tables - conditioned already ! Good places we ate were mostly around The Annabelle hotel and, in particular the Vienna Cafe did a good veggie burger. A couple of good inexpensive Indian restaurants and Chloe's Chinese and La Piazza Italian were great. Not many places to have a good meze tho. Lots of trips available including flights to Syria and Lebanon. Rate of exchange for pound was not great when we were there.

Back to the hotel, I felt that the so-called spa was pretty poor although the gym seemed fine. The sauna and the steam room in themselves were ok but the changing area was awful, with no water-cooler, few lockers and the showers were in need of some repair. There is also a charge of £3 per day; something I have not found at 5* hotels. I decided not to have any treatments and looked to another hotel for this. The gym is free.

There is one bar which is overpriced relatively speaking and the staff are either not happy at their work or naturally abrasive ! Reception staff were great as were the porters. Lunch is a buffet and fine.

So, would we go back ? No, because this is a chain hotel which won several prizes between 2000-2004 but the economies that seem to be being made at the price of the customer took away from the enjoyment of staying at the Athena Beach. This said, it is clear that many people do get married here and return year after year, so maybe it was just not the hotel for us ?

Good 4 Star

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed here 14-21st June and paid for a sea view. Having seen previous reviewers photos of sea views imagine my wife and my smiling faces as we stepped onto the balcony staring at the roof tops. To be fair, as you can see from the photos when you sat down all you had was a great view. We stayed in room 236 and all the even numbered rooms on this floor would have had the same view so dont let this put you off.

One of the photos I have attached showed room 145 which we paid £CYP 30 for an extension untill 4'o'clock as check out is midday. As you can see looks staright onto main road so not much fun to sit on the balcony having a glass of vino at night. However I noted that it had 'double' double sliding doors which shut off all outside noise.

We are lucky enough to have quite a few holidays every year and stay in a mixture of 4 and 5 star accomodation. This was one of the beter 4 stars we have stayed in and will give a quick summary of why.

1. Great location, quiet and only 5 minute walk to the start of the restaurants. 25 minute walk to Paphos harbour or a 5 minute bus ride on either the number 11 or 15 and only 80 cents one way.

2. Very clean, friendly staff and a good selection of freshwater pools (think I counted 5) and an indoor pool, one also has a slide to keep both kids and adults entertained.

3. Food- We stayed B&B but there was a good varied selection each morning and opens for three hours between 7 and 10. There is good food served at both the poolside areas, the 'Soulvaki' was my favourite, fresh cooked pork cubes with taksiki and salad served in pitta bread (nothing like a friday night kebab).

The other nice little touches were fresh strawberries served at 3pm everyday and are announced by the ringing of a bell. Room facilities were good consisiting of robes and slippers, kettle, coffee, tea iron and board. You were also allocated 2 beach towels each, for use at the pool free of charge everyday.

I would recommend this hotel for singles, couples and familes. If you dont want kids running around (there were very few during our stay) then stay next door and the overpriced Royal Athena Beach. I would also agree with other comments about getting married there. We saw several weddings and it did appear they were paraded around the swimming pool area to get photos and also had their drinks overlooking the pool. If this is your most romantic day do you really want to share it with people sat around in their speedo's and cozzies? Treat yourselves and get wed at the Annabelle or Alexander the Great.

I could not find any faults with the Hotel at all. The only thing I would warn you of is stay well clear of any of any the Tour operators owned by Airtours who sell the Athena Beach (My Travel Manos etc) They are terrible. Our flights were changed without informing us, the planes were dirty and uncomfortable and the stewardesses pompus. Transfers to the hotel were unduly delayed and on the return they took us to the airport 3 HOURS before departure.

If you do stay B&B here are a couple of recommendations that are close by.

Rib Shack - Good service reasonable price but get there before 9pm as it gets very busy. (steaks, ribs etc)

Rimini - Good wide selection and very good price, again gets very busy (Italian,Greek - beef stufado out of this world.

Oleastro- Very good food fair price but found the owner/head waiter very slimey and not genuine. (Italian,Sea food)

Seagull- located in Paphos harbour.Very good food but like most of the others in the hrbour area OVERPRICED. (sea food, Greek).

Would go back

by TripAdvisor Member RudyKai

The hotel was welcoming and had lovely views being on the beachfront, we went as a couple, but there was plenty also for children...mini golf, kids club etc. The hotel was quiet and we did not have any complaints and could not fault the accommodation. There was no putting your towel on your sunbed before breakfast as there were always plenty of beds. The swimming pool is huge and very much needed in Cyprus, it was so hot, hotter than we had expected, so take lots of suncream. Our fave restaurant was Cavallini which if you come out of the hotel is a few restaurants down to the right. On our last night they opened early especially for us to come for dinner we ate there 4times in our week stay.
You can walk right along a path into the town which is about a 30min walk. Overall we had a lovely holiday and would go back again, taking our son this time. Recommend the Catamaran cruise. A few days before we left we asked if we could have a complimentary room for our last day as our flight wasn't until the evening, for an extra 30euro they let us keep our own room, which saved having to share with another family or store your luggage elsewhere.

Hi there,

I was in paphos for 2months the best place to go is Bar st.

While i was there my started at Woody's Bar nik is the guy who will meet and greet you half the time they give you free drink anyway, then it's down to Starky and Hutch R&B hip-hop bit of garage. Then over to Escaoe for the end of the night house garage what the crowd wants.
It should cost between 4-6 to get to bar st.

Hope this help if you want anymore info email me.
