More about Crown Resorts Horizon
bad food nice staff
me an my girlfriend have just got back from the crown resorts horizon, we had origanally booked half bored but upgraded to all inclusive, the food was discusting just put under heat lamps an the lunch was just the left overs from the night befor definatly not a 4* standered not even a 2*, plus to make it worse their is a seperate menu you can order off for a 50% discount which forgive me if im wrong is not all inclusive, but the food off that menu is not bad
apart from the food the staff are great especially thanu from the pool bar an tatiyana the waitress, the activaties in the day are great an really help you to meet new people an there is a indoor pool which is nice an cold, the hotel is very clean
an the area around is not bad with some nice restraunts the coral king an elephant the best an a stones throw from the hotel there is not much of a night life in coral bay but kleos an coral sunset are open till about 3
i would not recomend this hotel to anyone unless the food improved a lot i really cant say anything nice about the food but the hotel apart from that is a really nice hotel so if you go, go self catering
Just got back from Cyprus and stopped in the Crown Resort Horizon in pathos
The hotel was great if I had to moan about any thing it would only be the beer, I know that sounds mad but what you will find if you go there is that at the swim up bar the beer is perfect it is ice cold and got a good head on it. That is O.K in the day time but on a night when the pool bar is shut the beer in the rest of the hotel is like cold tea with no milks it is flat and lifeless I am glad I only went half board. The only other things were not much light in the rooms on a night when getting ready. The fridge in the room will cost you £2.50 a day if you want to use it and the safe cost £22.00 for two weeks. Those are my only gripes wit this hotel which are quite minor. It’s not all bad the hotel it’s self is first class and well situated .The food was A1.Down stairs in the hotel is a very well equipped Gym and a Ace indoor pool which is nice and cold.
There are pool and snooker tables I would recommend this hotel as long as you are not to fussy about your beer.
Fair to Good Hotel
The Head Chef had just departed the week before we arrived 02nd July 06, so even though there were other cooks/chefs the food varied from excellent to not so good, but over the two weeks gradually improved in quality.
Beware if you are childless.....once the school holidays arrive in force, it becomes very/extremely noisy around the pool areas. with the usual crowd kicking footballs around and ipods playing through speakers so all can hear, this is not the hotels fault of course. We liked Coral Bay and its situation, the bus service is very good and inexpensive.
Cyprus is not a cheap holiday during the summer months and the costs of drinks/food at restaurants is on par if not more expensive than the UK, the quality and service we received was very good at all times.
The Staff at the Horizon were very friendly exspecially the Nepalese/Burmese 'apprentices'.
Yes we could go back to Coral Bay but perhaps either a different hotel and more likely early June or late September.

Hotel doesn't deserve 4* rating
I stayed at this hotel in July with my husband and 16 year old son. The hotel premises itself was nice, clean and well decorated. However, although there was air con in the rooms, the manager refused to switch on the air con to the main hotel so the bars, lobby etc were unbearably hot. He gave various reasons-it is too expensive, the guests keep leaving the windows open... The buffet food was awful. I m veggie and in fairness the restaurant manager was helpful, offering specail meals. The rest of the food for breakfast was lukewarm, repetetive and of poor quality. There was much better food available at a reasonable price at local bars.( Would recommend you try Fat Mammas. Not particularly cheap but a brilliant evening out and food is excellent.) The entertainment was ok during the day. There was only a 2 man entertainment team- the smallest I've ever seen in a hotel this size- but most of the evening entertainment was dire. The guests enjoyed laughing at it because in some cases it was so bad. There was no entertainment for youngsters atall. When we stayed in Mexico last year the large animation team used to take them into town during the evenings and arrange day trips aimed at them. Nothing like that here. The hotel wants to charge you for everything it can as extras: £2 a day for teabags in your room, the safe is extra, to be able to open the fridge in your room is extra. Most of the staff were friendly but I had to complain about the night porter. My son felt ill one night and I went to reception to ask if I could buy some drinking water as we had run out, he told me in no uncertain terms that the bar was shut and there was no water available to guests during the night!!!!! he said if we were thirsty we would have to drink the tap water. we had been advised not to do this by the rep. I would not recommend this hotel with it's current management-shame because the facilities are good. I think the penny-pinching regime really has stripped it of deserving the 4* rating Thompsons gave it in their brochure. We would not return to Paphos as there are too many Brits there for our liking. I love Cyprus and have been there a few times as my husband is Cypriot. Larnaca, Paralimni, Fig Tree Bay end of the island is much nicer.
4* AI You Must Be Joking
we booked 4*AI allocated on arrival with Thomson,we have never done it before won't do it again, food was not up to 4* standard, hotel was like an oven except in your room, you had to pay for tea/coffee in your room and if you wanted the fridge you had to pay for the mini bar, breakfast & dinner was in the restaurant, food here ok some of the time you could always find something to eat but the rest of the time it was in the coffee shop where it was put out at 12pm and stayed untill 5pm most of the time it was cold and all dried up( if you liked cold chips and salad you were ok)the menu for the whole 2wks was the same(sorry 1 or 2 items changed daily).complaints to the managers fell on deaf ears, the air con was blamed on the guests(they open all the windows and doors butt they were wedged open ),at night the only snacks available were cold sandwiches, the entertainment was rubbish except for the mind reading show which was brill, the staff were lovely and the hotel was a nice looking and very clean.
staff were great, food was below average
Originally booked for Bulgaria but had to change due to a flood at the hotel. Thomsons eventually changed us to this hotel on a late deal, therefore we were allocated on arrival at the airport. Very pleased with the hotel, set in lovely gardens palm trees, banana plants etc. Pool area was very good although the water did get murky as the day went on, people did not always shower before going in the pool and sun creams, sweat and children not getting out of the pool to go to the loo contributed to this.
Food was not very interesting, the left overs from the previous evenings meal was usually recycled into something else and presented differently for lunch the following day.
The bar staff both on the snack bar and the pool bar were excellent, in particular Ganesh and Thanu from Nepal and Cathy from Burma. They were all very helpful, friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble considering the long hours they work. In comparison the local Cypriot staff were at times surly, rude (especially the General Manager more like a sargent major) The restaurant manager had reduced the overseas staff to tears on a few occasions. It was not needed.
The activities during the day were excellent, unfortunately the same cannot be said for the evening. Very poor. Cyprus's answer to Peters and Lee were hilarious, the hypnotist was a joke.
The hotel was very clean including the rooms which were always made up whilst at breakfast.
The local bus service to Pathos was air conditioned and very reliable.
We had 3 teenagers in our party of 7and talking to other people found that they agreed that there was nothing for them to do in the evenings. There was only one pool table taking 50 cents for each game, the snooker table needed £5 deposit refundable after the game. A young person/childrens room where they could meet, have soft drinks, play games etc would be a good idea, parents would know where they were, instead in the dark they all gathered on the climbing frame area which was too small for them, causing damage.
Air conditioning was fantastic especially in mid August, rooms were large enough even with the sofa bed for my 15yr old.
Plenty of English plug sockets in the rooms was great.
Would we go back? If the food improved, definately but because we were all inclusive there was not enough variation for us but a great holiday was had by all.
Appalling Food, and animal abuse!
Just arrived home after 2 weeks at this hotel......the hotel rooms are fine, not of 4 star standard though, but ok.....the food however is appalling, everything tasted the same no matter what you ate, the staff in the resteraunt were rude and very unfriendly, and the night i will never forget is when i was sat in the resteraunt having a drink and a little kitten came to my table, at which point a man, with no hesitation ran over to my table and proceeded to kick the cat about 12 foot in the air, over another families table whilst they were eating, swearing and abusing the cat, did the staff at the resteraunt do anything about this....NO...they actually seemed to find it quite amusing! It was an absolute disgrace and i can assure you that there is no way i will return to this hotel ever again!
Don't Go ..Not 4* despite the cost!
Stayed at the Crown Resort from 12th August to 26th. If you are considering this hotel, please chose another. We have read other reviews and just cannot understand why no-one else is as disappointed as us. We travelled with our two boys aged 8 and 4. The hotel is definitely not 4* quality for service. The restaurant staff are extremely rude and abrupt. The reception staff just about give you eye contact when speaking to you but our main grumble is the lack of air conditioning in the public areas. We tried together with numerous guests during our stay to get the air conditioning put on as Cyprus was in the middle of a heat wave and to sit in a cool bar or lobby would have been bliss. However, even after complaining to our rep (Thomsons) the air conditioning remained firmly off. One night, nearly all the men had to either sit with shirts unbuttoned or take them off completely. As for us ladies, I couldn't even eat my evening meal as I was so hot and sticky it was inhumane!
The pool looked very inviting at first, but this was taken over by the locals very quickly as we understand the hotel market their facilities very cheaply locally so you were left feeling kind of miffed at having paid top dollar for your holiday, but receiving 2nd class service. The pool also became very murky half way through the week and only appeared to be cleaned once during our stay. the pool is taken over by lilos and ball games galore so forget it if you want to take a leisurely dip. Also, my husband was having to set the alarm at 6.30 am every morning to make sure we got a sun bed around the pool area. If you are taking children on the assumption of the kids club, again don't bother. It was a small room below stairs and all the kids seemed to do was colour. Needless to say, our boys did not go.
Just as a lasting note, make sure your cases have wheels as there is no porter!
well below expectations
We have just returned from Cyprus which was lovely, more than what can be said for this hotel.
Breakfast was the best meal of the day, lunch, and diner well forget it.
The hotel management was obviously on some kind of cost cutting activity, example, no air conditioning in the comon area's or bars made it un-bareable to spend the evening in the hotel. they said its because people keep leaving the doors open.
We had spoken to many familys and at least one member had an ear infection, we believe from the swimming pool ,myself included.
one day a week the local exersise group of old girls, take over the swimming pool which i found a laugh, and about the best entertainment during our stay.
The staff were nice, but unfortunatley thats about it.
Thompson's you need to check this place out , 4* your having a laugh.
We have recently returned from the above hotel having stayed there in two weeks of brilliant sunshine in August, 2006. Upon arrival we found the hotle to be very impressive, clean and airy. The reception staff were very courteous. The rooms were clean and the power shower was a welcome relief after days spent by the pool. The hotel is set in the Ciral Beach resort and is right at the end of the strip and two minutes walk from a good selection of bars, shops and rstaurants. The hotel food was varied with a different them every night, We booked half board and upgraded after the third day to all inclusive which is well worth the money. The waiting staff were very friendly in particular Kathy. There was a good choice of activities to do every day care of Martin the Animator and the fakir show is well worht staying in to watch it was AMAZING!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay thought would advise to give the beach at Coral Bay a miss as per previous reviews it is like a giant ash tray. We woule definitley go back to that hotel though.

A view to lively Paphos city in early evening
hi we are coming to coral bay in august we are wanting to visit the waterpark and go on the glass bottom boat but we are not sure if these have disable access or if there is any sights we can visit with disable access if any one help we would appreciate it thanks
Re: disable access
the Aphrodite water park does have some handicapped access though the only rides you can go on are the lazy river and the wave pool if you are in a wheel chair.
You should go to the Mosaics at the world heritage site at the port of paphos. They have reasonably good access there.
Have a great trip....
