Paphos palace

Huge 5 star resort hotels aren't really our style and I'm sure I wouldn't have like the Elysium half as much had I come here when it was full but a few days in February, probably their quietest time of the year, was very, very nice indeed. Friendly, helpful staff and a very elegant, spacious reception area set the tone which was carried through in our large room with a view of the pools and the sea and a welcome bowl of fresh fruit. The beds were divine - so comfortable!

Breakfast next morning was served in the Lemonia Piazza - an amazing spread (champagne included) with enough choice to keep anyone happy; with one exception, everything looking and tasting so fresh and appetising. The exception - orange juice. Why, on this island and in this season, with orange groves everywhere groaning with fruit, couldn't they serve freshly squeezed juice? We drank an orange/tangerine mix, perfectly pleasant and better than most hotel breakfast juices, but with only a handful of guests in the place, a fresh squeezed option shouldn't have been beyond them.

We really didn't take advantage of the facilities the hotel offers - numerous restaurants, luxurious library, spa, gym and indoor pool, children's club, etc. Apart from breakfast, the only meal we took was Sunday high tea in the Cafe Occidental - a great favourite with locals it seems, the place was packed, and given the finesse of the food that was served, it's no surprise.

Staying off-season was great - with 300 rooms, I'm not sure that it would suit me so well in high season. I'm sure the staff would cope beautifully with all those people but I don't think I would.

Unique Quality: The Elysium pretty well ticks all the boxes for a 5 star hotel. Beachfront location, sunset views, stunning pools, stylish restaurants, fabulous flowers, resort activities - the list goes on.

Wifi is expensive - why?

Worst wedding venue

A large group of us travelled here for my friends' wedding. Despite booking over 6 months in advance the hotel had double-booked them with a film crew. My friends were asked to change the wedding date to facilitate the film crew although not all guests would be there in time.
We were given second class treatment throughout the celebration including an interruption during the wedding ceremony. There was an overall lack of privacy for the group and no special attempt was made to ensure it was a 'special' day.

Unique Quality: The hotel has nice facilities and features which are completely overshadowed by rude service. The dining room was cold. Food had to be chosen in advance of the meal and portions were not large. Drinks were dear.

More about Elysium Hotel

Great hotel!

by TripAdvisor Member Victoria003

My husband and I are just back from a one week stay at the Elysium hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary & would thoroughly recommend the hotel. The hotel sent champagne & chocolates to our room - which was a nice touch.
We booked the hotel through one of the discount internet companies & word of warning - although we paid the extra for a full seaview we were told by the hotel that our company didn't have access to the full seaview rooms - we did feel a little cheated with this but understand this was not the hotels fault - it's worth checking this when you book
Having said that the room was good, nicely furnished & very clean.
The hotel is huge with acres of room by the pool - i know we were there out of season but there are so many sun loungers that there was no need to get up early to find a good spot!
Breakfast was good - great selection & the man who cooks the omlettes was particuarly friendly.
We ate at the hotel twice - first night in the Epicurean & in Cava - both were nice but the Cava really is a treat place to eat. The lunchtime restaurant was also particuarly good. Drinks are a bit pricey but what you expect from a 5* hotel. Outside the hotel we ate at Metaxa which is very near to the hotel - good food but some of the staff were a bit grumpy!
We used the hotel tennis courts & indoor pool (it's not that warm although not half as cold as the outdoor pools - they are seriously cold now!)We didn't prebook spa treatments then couldn't get suitable appointments whilst we were out there. There's a good selection so recommend you prebook!!
One hotel complaint - they didn't seem able to order taxis for you - we always ended up waiting over 30 mins which was usually fine but when we had to get to the airport on our final day & our taxi was 45 mins late it was a bit annoying, either prebook yourselves or walk up the road & flag one down.
All in all I would definitely recommend the hotel - it's very relaxing & the staff are really attentive & make sure that you hardly lift a finger whilst you are there!

Nice hotel but something missing

by TripAdvisor Member HJMoore

My wife, 2 year old daugter and I have just returned from 2 weeks at the Elysium. Fantastic architecture, great public areas, confortable rooms and fabulous but expensive food. Really enjoyed our holiday.

Downside - air conditioning set to 22.5C after the 1st November, even though it was 24C outside. Food was excellent but drinks are overpriced. Similar prices to Dubai but unfortunately the service doesn't match. Although the weather was mixed during our last week it was still warm enough to sit out for drinks and breakfast but the hotel decided to close the breakfast terrace and cover the chairs on the first floor terrace to prevent anyone using them. The management give the impression that the hotel is run for their pleasure and not the guests.

Great children's club and playground but can't understand why a hotel of this quality doesn't heat the out-door pool; it was freezing. Also the SPA was very disappointing for a hotel of this calibre, great therapists and treatments but the spa shows a lack of management. If you want to use the Hammam make sure you get them to turn it on several hours before hand.

Be aware that the hotel is approx 25 mins walk into Paphos via the coastal track or via the main road. The coastal track isn't lit at night and the pavements are missing for several hundred meters on the main road route.

True 5 star

by TripAdvisor Member 2indiafans

Going in late November meant that the hotel was quiet, but all services were available. The hotel and grounds are very well designed, and beautifully maintained. Room was very comfortable, with first class housekeeping. We only tried one of the hotel's restaurants, preferring to explore the rest of Pafos in the evening. Our one visit was for their seafood buffet evening, which was as good as I have ever had!
I should also add that the breakfast buffet was of a very high standard, with a cook on hand for fresh omelettes, poached eggs, etc.
As is so often the case with good hotels, the staff really made it 5 star. They were all helpful, friendly, and very efficient.
We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, and hope to visit it again.

Excellant Five Star Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member Henrykm

We stayed at the Elysium for one week over the Christmas period on a B&B basis. Despite the weather being cold (12-14 degrees C) the hotel made the break magnificent.
If you are use to or wish to experience true 5* luxury then this is one for you. The hotel is beautifully designed and the staff and service is A1 and comes with a smile. Our week included a Gala Xmas Eve dinner, which included 6 courses and a live band. The meal was exceptional as was the service.
The hotel has 3 restaurants. We ate in the Epicurean Restaurant on one evening only and again we could not fault the service or the food (price was £60 for 2 including wine).
The hotel is located fairly centrally between Kato Pafos and Pafos Town (about 1/2hr brisk walk to each location from the hotel). There are numerous good restaurants just 5 mins walk from the Hotel. Would recommend the Duomo Italian Restaurant (just at the end of the road from the Elysium as you walk toward the main highway)- dinner for 2 including wine was about £30.
The hotel has a tranquil atmosphere and the pool and sunbathing areas are well designed although the beach area is limited (as with all of Pafos).
As the weather was so poor we made good use of the indoor pool and gym.
If we had any gripes it would be that you had to pay to use the sauna/steam room (£3.6 each for 1/2hr) and there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
Would recommend this place to anyone.

Brilliant Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel is brilliant. The rooms are large and clean with good air conditioning and complimentary fruit and water on arrival. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional. The food wonderful. The pool was large clean and with an ample amount of sun loungers around it, with staff walking around handing out cold towels all day. This hotel is pure luxury and was perfect in every way. I would deffinately go back.

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.

by TripAdvisor Member Loz1000

Pure luxury and worth every penny. We stayed there a few months after it first opened and couldn't fault a single thing.

It's one of the few beach holidays we've stayed on where you have carpet in your bedrooms.

The food was fantastic as was everything about the place.

Would not hesitate in going back.

ridiculous prices

by A TripAdvisor Member

wouldnt reccommend this hotel unless you want to be ripped off! Have stayed in many five star hotels and was v disappointed with this one
The entrance and lobby is impressive and the pool is amazing but these are only good points. The rooms are so drab small and not atall what you would expect for price. My balcony overlooked waste land horrible! The staff are v unhelpfull even rude especially manager who did nothing when we complained about our room. Aircon in our room hardly worked so would wake up sweating though other rooms were apparently too cold. Also beach is disgusting too dirty to swim in sea
But the worst thing of all was prices ....outragous!...expect to pay around 7.50 for a chicken sandwich which is selfserved in tinfoil from beach bar alcohol far too much aswell more than five star hotel in london.
This area of cyprus is horrible wouldnt reccommend

Paphos Summer 2009

by AlisonK7

"Paradise in Europe"

Paphos is a beautiful part of Cyprus, a feeling of pure tranquility as soon as i arrive up until the moment i leave . Not to miss is the harbour in the evening, just walking along the sea front hearning that sea lapping is wonderful. The harbour footpath that runs from the harbour along to the elysium hotel is a must do during sunset, and a visit to the great tombs of the Kings is a must for history lovers.

"Places not to miss"

Fat mamas restaurant is a must especially if you have kids or are a large group, a real fun night out with entertainment while you eat, the smoothie bar next door True Bliss offers a wide range of delicious tasting smoothies and ice cream which the kids adored (and me and the husband), Nearby waterpark a must for a day out with the kids and for the adventorous a day out on the Quad bikes in the Akamas is a breathtaking experience.
