Wine Tasting
by soulcurls
Are there any vinyards in or near Paphos that one can visit?
Any information on location, price, quality would be gratefully received.
If you know of a smaller, less touristy vinyard that opens for tastings, that would be ideal.

Only just noticed your question. There are quite a few vineyards or cava around the area. I have just returned from staying locally to Paphos and noticed a lot of signs up advertising tastings etc. Throughout lots of the area there are several wine routes signposted on road signs so you could follow these and they will lead you on your way. I noticed several between Paphos and Polis, and on a drive up to Troodos noticed "Wine Route 3(?)" and "Wine Route 4 (?)". (excuse the probable inaccuracy of the numbers!
Cheers.

I highly recommend Kolios Winery - I've taken many family and friends up here for a meze lunch and wine tasting (just remember to sort out your designated driver!) The view is gorgeous, the food is delightful and the wine is my favourite. http://www.koliosvineyards.com/index.html
You do have to book for lunch - it's very popular with expats as well!
Travel Tips for Paphos
Memories
by sandysmith
A memorable 10th wedding anniversary spent on the island of Cyprus - the third largest island in the Med. It was early spring but the weather was oh so pleasant compared to back home in Blighty, there were fewer tourists around and wild flowers were abundant and colourful. We stayed in Paphos, which was the capital of Cyprus during Roman times and thus is rich in Historical remains.

When you go in low season to Paphos there are very less people on the beaches in direction of the Airport. The hotel where I stayed was the last one on the coast line of Paphos. I just had to walk for a few minutes away to be almost alone. It's a beautiful stone beach and the water is very clear.
The Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates
by leics
The Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates was dedicated to the god of woodland and ancient Kourion; an important place for pilgrims.
2km from the city of Kourion, on the B6 towards Pafos, this site allows you to walk on its original processional way.....your feet treading where feet trod more than 1500 years ago. The Sanctuary itself has been partially restored, and there are also baths, pilgrim dormitories, a display hall for votive offerings and other remains to see.
A small site, but with plenty to interest the visitor and (if you time it right so you are more-or-less alone) extremely atmospheric.
More info and photos here.
An Eating expererience
by piersend about Phidias' Tavern
You can't go to Coral Bay without going to Phidias's Tavern-it is an experience!! Don't be put of by the rickety sign pointing to where the Taverna is, its really excellent. The man himself is very amusing and seems to revel in entertaining the punters. He has a large collection of tea towels from many places in Europe hanging from the beams. I don't know if you get an option here, but when you sit at the table the food seems to come from all directions! Basically it is a Meze, 5.50 Cypriot Pounds per head, and you certainly get your moneys worth. Lamb, fish, bread, Calamares, Chicken, Beef Stifado and Pork. The wine is very reasonable and if you get on well you can end up with plenty of complementary drinks-so chat to the guy-he loves it!! His catchword is nice food shame about the service-but its getting better! Meze-Cheapest in Town, but excellent!
Chicken Quesidillas
by piersend about El Faro
Don't be put off by the rather cheesy statue outside the restaurant, the food is very nice. Actually at night the ambience inside in like being in a well lit and atmospheric crypt! Service is very brisk and friendly and kids are really well catered for with an extensive childrens menu and very good prices. Nice place. They do traditional Cypriot dishes as well as Mexican and English. Also Ostrich steaks! Chicken Vera Cruz.
Chicken Quesidillas.
Stifado.
Kleftico.
Spagetti Bolognese.
