More about Kissos Hotel
good value for money hotel
Stayed at the kissos in late april/early may 2007 and I found this hotel to be a great value for money deal. My wife and I booked it as a last minute booking and this was after we had read some of the reviews, most of which were very favourable for the hotel and this was the main reason we picked the kissos.
This hotel is kept very clean and tidy, the rooms are big and cleaned every day. The food in the hotel is reasonable and there's as much as you want and the restaurant has a new manager who keeps all the staff on their toes, as soon as you've finished a course the plates are moved promptly and you never have to wait for anything.
All the staff in the hotel are great, they'll go out of their way to help you, nothing seems too much trouble for them. the pool was fully cleaned during our stay, not that we used it much though, the water was still nippy in april.
The weather at that time of year can vary slightly, the week started at 73f and finised at 85f, with sun from 7 or 8 in the morning, til' 7 at night, not bad at all for late april, so if you hire a car you'll need one with air con or you,ll fry, even in early spring the sun is very strong in Cyprus.
If you do hire a car, pay extra for full insurance with cdw cover or you could find yourself paying 750 pounds excess if you have a bump. We hired from easycar (easyjet) and you can book it online before you
go, £72 for 3 days for 2 drivers with full insurance, you'll get a car cheaper but remember what I said earlier. Driving is much the same as here, just keep an eye out for the locals turning without indicating and moving off from lights when they're red.
All in all, I would definately go back to cyprus and the kissos hotel and if you are used to 3/4 star hotels, you'll be o.k with it. If you are used to 5 star, you wont!
Stayed at the Kissos for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. The room was very nice and clean - serviced daily. The pools were great but very cold this time of year. The staff were very helpful and our Thomson Rep was great. The only down side of the hotel was the meals, we would recommend you go BB not HB. The last evening we were taken over by a private function and were pushed out of the dinning room and bar area, very bad customer relations as everyone complained. Had a lovely day trip to Egypt and would recommend you do this whilst in Cyprus. J.Cawley
Good Hotel, Good Location, Great Holiday!!
Booked this holiday 2 weeks before jetting off after reading majority of reviews were positive as opposed to other hotels on offer which had mixed reviews.......and i have to agree with all other reviews posted the Kissos is a very good 3* hotel. Rooms are spacious & clean only negative would be room tea/coffee facilities cost £1.50CYP per day & also no room service available. The Kissos has good swimming pools 2 outdoor which are the main pool & the great lagoon pool plus 1 indoor heated pool which also has sauna, steam, jacuzzi but all cost £5CYP each for use. Food in the hotel is ok buffet style if not to your taste there are a variety of restaurants within a minutes walk from the hotel including chinese, mexican, italian, pizza hut & even KFC!! Staff at the Kissos are very freindly & helpful.
Another reason why I booked the Kissos was due to location, as mentioned you are right next to the main strip of bars, restaurants that also have a few kiosks, gift shops. As for getting around a bit further you can visit the harbour which is a 10 minute bus ride away & has a market & variety of souvenir shops for all those family gifts! Buses are frequent we used the no 10 & 15 to get to harbour, old town (more market & souvenirs) & coral bay beach which is the best beach for golden sand & clear blue water.
People in cyprus are friendly also majority english speaking so you'll have no problem communicating. As Cyprus was a British Colony you drive on the same side of the road as the UK & they also use the same plug sockets so no need to buy adaptor.
The weather is hot this time of year (24-28C) first day we were there it was 37C though but locals said this was "freak" weather & temperatures normally don't reach that until july-august time. It was overcast & did rain with spectacular lightning & thunder for three days which was a bit of a dampner but it did pick up for last few days of holiday.
Overall had a very realxing time in Cyprus loads to do & would recommend it as a good place to go for a relaxing holiday!
Quiet and relaxing
We have just returned from one week's half board at The Kissos. This is a quiet and relaxing place to stay, yet close to local bars and restaurants. Unfortunately the food was below par. Breakfast was the same every day. We had one evening meal in the hotel but ate out every other night. Great restaurants locally. We booked a superior room which was great, but thought it was a bit much having to pay for the use of the fridge which was already in the room. We drew a line at paying for use of a kettle etc. I took a travel kettle with me but was told I couldn't use it, which was a bit odd. Entertainment was non-existent. Overall the hotel was clean with efficient staff. Wouldn't go back though.
A good quality hotel which for 3 star is one of the best in paphos we have stayed in. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. The pool area was lovely and clean with plenty of space.
Good value for money and a relaxing atmosphere.
Great Hotel, Great Location
Myself and my partner stayed at this hotel at the end of September and found it to be a delight. We paid extra for a superior room which opened out onto the lagoon pool with a lovely view and I believe was well worth the extra money. The room was very large, very clean and the air conditioning excellent.
We stayed on a bed a breakfast basis and found the food to be plentiful and good. It was a typical fayre - sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs etc as well as cold meats, cheeses, cereals, fruit and yoghurt and presented as a serve yourself buffet.
We bought lunch on a few occassions at the pool bar which proved to be very nice and good value. The pool bar was also well stocked with friendly staff.
The hotel itself was spotlessly clean and remained so throughout our stay due to an army of friendly cleaners, the pools were well looked after although they were pretty cold. Although we went towards the end of the season the sunbeds were all taken very early. The rules stated that no towels could be left on the sunbeds before 8am however but 8.05am there were very many towels laid out so I would reccommend an early rise for those wishing to bag a sunbed. As we are a couple (mid 30's) without children we were pleased that the hotel was mainly adults (although many of them were much older than us) so it was very quiet and peaceful. I can't comment on the hotel entertainment as we did not attend any of it.
The location is very good, situated just of Tomb of the Kings Rd it has a huge variety of resturants and bars nearby, my best and worst are as follows;
Kings Road Bar (Tomb of the Kings Rd) - excellent, good prices, friendly staff, nice snack food.
Duomo -(Tomb of the Kings Rd) not bad, good service, food not bad either.
Fat Mamas (Tomb of the Kings Rd) - vastly overated, food average, staff friendly, mini caberet very annoying as they almost danced on our laps and we were surrounded by children whilst we were eating during the performance.
The Pelican (The Harbour) - average food, average service.
Edelweiss (Bar Street) - best food of the holiday, excellent service, good value
Sissyfos (Tomb of the Kings Rd) - quite nice, good starter, excellent dessert, good service.
Overall the hotel was excellent. My only criticisms are that we had to pay seperately for the use of the fridge and security box and that the reception staff were somewhat brusque to say the least.
We booked a trip to the Troodos mountains through our First Choice rep, the transport arrived early, called a room that wasn't ours who told them that they weren't going until tomorrow and then promptly left without us. Having waited for 40 minutes we spoke the receptionist who was fairly blase about our problem and tried hard to hussle us in to merely going the next day. Her manner was abrupt to say the least. It took an awful lot of complaining to First Choice in order to get our money back. This of course was not the hotels fault however I felt that the receptionist could have been more helpful as her attitude was very much 'get over it - it happens all the time'.
Having said that overall my experience of the hotel is that I would definitely reccommended it.
Good location but stick to B & B
Recently returned from this Hotel having considered previous reviews by Trip advisor members. Can agree with most comments that this a value for money 3* hotel. However would strongly recommend you only book B &B as the evening meals, whilst varied were rather bland and uninspiring. On the other hand lunches from the snack menu are cooked to order and are of a much better quality. We used our HB plan at lunchtime on a couple of occasions and dined out locally in the evening. Metaxa Restaurant can be highly recommended. One note of caution if you are a non smoker be prepared for poor ventilation in the rooms if your room is close to reception and also be wary of noisy conference delegates if they are in the hotel at the same time - they were particularly noisy during our stay which led to several nights disturbed sleep.
My friend and I stayed here for 2 weeks, the first room we had was on the 1st floor and was so small you couldnt swing a cat! and the side view we had was the carpark, so we upgraded to a superior room which was excellent, spacious, clean, linen changed daily, air conditioning great, down fall was having to pay for the fridge, safe and tea and coffee £1.50 each per day! The reception staff were very friendly and polite as were the cleaning staff. We were half board but we hardly had any evening meals as the food was very bland and not very exciting, breakfast was very good so would recommend B&B only. But the resturants around the area we plentiful, go to Fat Mamas great place, lovely food.
All in all it was a very nice place, there was a beautiful lagoon which was quiet and relaxing. The down fall of this hotel was the entertainment which was vertually nil and the security of the hotel, we had a bad experience of theft while we were in our ground floor apartment, although very upsetting the manager and police were so helpful we couldnt thank them enough for their thoughtful concerns and actions. But I love Cyprus and the people and will return!
Relaxing Stay Friendly Staff Good Atmosphere
Stayed there during the first week of April 2007
The hotel offered excellent services and is good value
the Staff is superb very friendly and always willing to help.
It appears that the hotel has been recently renovated
and from what we heard from other clients that return the changes are very nice.
We can say the cleanliness is impecable through the whole
of the hotel.
Food is very good we tried the buffet dinners as well and find
them very nice good value compared to surrounding restaurants.
Definately return again this summer when is more busy.
Ok but not great
We booked this holiday a week before travelling and then read the reviews on here. The hotel was ok but nothing special, I did notice quite a layer of dust on the furniture in our room, the charging for all the extras was a bit tiresome. We were booked half board but after a few nights got so bored with the evening meals that we went to local restaurants. Please leave Fat Mamas, you can eat like that at home, try the Olympus (Cypriot owned and fantastic food), or try Island Blue (English owned but very good Cypriot food served). Breakfast in the hotel was ok, the usual buffet offerings plus a cooked English buffet (this was not nice at all). The staff in the restaurant seemed very eager to clear plates away, most of the time you'd still be chewing the last mouthful and the plate was whisked away. We would not return to this hotel but then my husband has also said he will not return to Cyprus.
