We are a couple in our fifties planning Christmas in Prague.
We like to stay a little way out of the centre but near to local type bars and restaurants.
We are looking at:
(a) Zizkov - Is this mainly for younger people. We want somewhere a little lively but not surrounded by stag parties and loud music.
We are looking at the Hotel Golden City, Taboritska 3. I have heard that Zizkov is very hilly. Is it difficult to get around by foot if the weather is icy?
(b) Smichov - We are looking at the hotel Akcent.
Will it be easy to travel around from Smichov to the rest of Prague and are there any local bars and restaurants in that locality?
Thanks in advance to all VTers
Hello Val, I've stayed once in Golden City and I didn't like it. The trams cross by the hotel and it can be very noisy.
I prefer Smichov. It is much more pleasing than Ziskov and it is not difficult to get to the city center. However, I have not stayed in Akcent Hotel.
Zizkov is where the tall TV tower stands. It is not the most upmarket area in Prague but myself and friends always stay in this area at the hotel Ariston. Great hotel only 3 tram stops from Wenceslas Square and lots of small bars around that dont attract stag parties.
the situation is like this - zizkov is hilly, but there are lot of bars, restaurants, pubs, etc .... It has got an atmosphere which is hard to describe and hard to forget :). It is close to the centre (actually it is broader center).
Smichov - is alright and is very close to the centre, it is not that hilly as Zizkov and the atmosphere is poorer also, however, if you find out that the hotel there is what you are looking for, do not worry and go for it.
I would prefer Zizkov ;-).
