by yogb

Hello,

I will be driving from Berlin Germany to Prague, Czech by 5 seats car.
Do I have to pay toll ? Are there any toll post when I have to pay ?

I also heard there are highway stickers. Is it equivalent to paying toll ? Where I can buy this toll stickers and which currency I need to buy this stickers. I have euro with me as I am coming from Berlin, Germany.

Best Regards !

Hi,

Yes, you must buy a sticker which is a highway toll.
It is most likely you will use a highway to get to Prague or any major city. If police will catch your car without sticker on the front window you will be fined. There are stickers for a week (220 CZK) or a month (330 CZK) also for a whole year.

Stickers are sold in all Czech post offices, Petrol stations and special places near the borders also inside German territory - just look out for billboards, in worst case buy the sticker in the first petrol station inside Czech Republic.

Most of the places mentioned above will accept Euros, but those in Czech Republic will recalculate price with unfavorable exchange rate- at least have small bills of Euros because you will get change in CZK.

Travel Tips for Prague

Enjoy this place in Praha,...

by l_joo

Enjoy this place in Praha, this is where you walk up from the underground transit right in the middle of city centre, seriously I have no idea which, where or what ? Just walk everywhere taking photos, smiling to kids... While I was on the way to Ceska Republika in the bus coming from Germany near the boundary, about 1km ahead I can see a big Czech Rep flag and the custom office, this area is more of agricultural, a very typical country road. We have about 30 passengers from all over the world, then about 6 Czech guards surrounded our bus, 2 came up for inspection, the atmosphere was quite serious, our bus driver collected all passports for stamps but later one Argentinian tourist has to get off because she need a visa to enter Czech, they arrange a car for her, pointing at the backward direction and talked some English, very sad. Anyway, we successfully entered Czech. At about 5pm, our bus arrived at place very old looking, communist feeling and few roll of shops. We get off here, one guy came up offering his service to the hostel according to him was cheapest, okay so let's see, we follow him taking the underground about 10 minutes to a place more modern, more shops, more peoples, later I knew it was the city center. Less than 2 minutes' walk to the hostel but it looks like a school to me. This hostel has a very stupid system of check-in, it took about one and half hours to finally settled a short queue of less than 20 peoples because we have to fill up a extremely complicated form full of rubbish. After check-in, I found the internet room, wow whatelse? I grab a chair, sit down, click on the explorer, go to hotmail but I didn't see the keyboard, I type in whatever as usual but it appear something else on the screen, later I look closer at the keyboard, it was a very Czech keyboard with dislocated keys, lol. Anyway I managed to type my email. My first dinner was easy, walk out the hostel there was a hawker-like stall by the roadside selling something very Czech to me, I just point my finger at one of the plate as 'give me one' then I bought a can of the famous Pilsner Urquell.

Be on the lookout for colorful characters!
They're everywhere in Prague, where interesting people are de rigeur. One of my fondest memories of Prague was back in 1996. I was visiting Petrin Hill on a freezing cold day with my then-boyfriend. He bought me a tiny cup of hot chocolate and we went to the top of the Petrin observation tower. Even on a dreary, gray day, Prague looked spectacular. I will post some pictures from that day soon.

The only thing I know cultural about the City is, the public is very helpful, it was the first time I arrivied there and two sweet ladies helped to find the city center, they even gave me the ticket for the bus and the neccecary information to find the place I'm looking for.

Church of St. Michael

by bpwillet

If you are walking through Petrin Park there is no way to tell when you leave Petrin Park and enter into the Kinsky Garden. You will see the spires of the Church of St. Michael through the trees. This is an 18th century Russian Orthodox church that was transported log by log from the Ukraine and reassembled piece by piece.

If you keep the Hunger Wall to your left keep following the path to the right. They are reconstructing some of the paths so watch out for mud in wet conditions. There are no clear signs indicating the church or its function but it is interesting to see.

Equestrian sculpture of St Wenceslas (I&V)

by Zvrlj

Equestrian sculpture of St Vaclav (St Wenceslas) created in the second half of 17th century by the first important Bohemian Baroque sculptor Jan Jiri Bendl had been located on Wenceslas Square, but it had been transferred to Vysehrad in 1879. This sculpture is quite unusual comparing it to the Equestrian sculpture of St Wenceslas by Josef Vaclav Myslbek – the most famous one (now on Wenceslas Square).

Bendl's sculpture can be seen in a distant northwest corner of Vysehrad hill.
