More about Archibald U Karlova Mostu at the Charles Bridge Prague
We loved it
We have just stayed at the U Karlova Mostu (Na Kampe 15) with friends. We chose it after reading loads of reviews and we were not disappointed. Its a lovely hotel in a superb location, just around the corner from Lesser town and a few minutes walk over Charles Bridge into The Old Town. We had 2 doubles on the back of the hotel with beautiful views across the river but if you end up on the front its not so bad, a pretty square to look out on to.
Breakfast was good, a selection of the usual hot and cold fare.
All the staff were helpful and friendly.
One word of warning, if you are arriving late, the restaurant closes at 10.00 and the bar at about 11.00.
Top tip: unplug the mini bar for a peaceful nights sleep!!
Couple of recommendations:
for airport transfers we used
friendly and efficient service for 600CZK (£15) each way.
For a fanstastic Bohemian dining experience try 'U Modre Kachniky II' (The Blue Duckling) on Michalska in the old town. Spoil yourself for about £35 a head.
Very comfortable in the heart of Prague
This was my second trip to Prague. I was delighted to get a room in U Karlova Mostu which is on the beautiful, elegant and QUIET Na Kampe, down one flight of steps from the Charles Bridge and therefore an ideal location for exploring.
I had a very comfortable double room (for single use) which overlooked the square-very scenic beneath snow ! The ensuite bathroom was not enormous but certainly adequate, and I enjoyed the breakfasts (nice selection of hot and cold ; good coffee).
The hotel was quiet and the reception staff always helpful. I took up their offer (made in advance) of a taxi to and from the airport.
It made no difference to me but I would point out there didn't seem to be a lift on the premises.
Just spent four days at the Archibald with my mum, fantastic hotel, immacutely clean, friendly and helpful staff, good food. Some have mentioned the breakfast but there was ample, loads of diffrent breads, croissants, cereals, yogurts, fruit, cheeses, meats, egg and bacon.
We had room 21 on the third floor, no lifts but only approx 12 steps on each floor so no problem. Although all rooms looked fab. The room was roomy, fantastic views over Charles Bridge and the river, comfortable beds and cosy cotton bed linen, sofa, table and chairs, well stocked mini bar which was not overpriced, the bathroom was small (but who needs a bg bathroom when you should be out and about visiting this wondeful city ) with a powerful shower and lots of hot water, no bath, complimentary toiletries not loads but the basics.
Only thing it lacked was tea and coffee facilites in the room but the local brew was good!
Great location close to everything we didn't take a tram once, just walked everywhere. Go see Wencelas Square then leave very tacky. I will definetly return and use this hotel.
Location, Location, Location
We stayed here for three nights, and it was a great experience.
Slightly nervous about booking purely from reviews seen here, we were not to be disappointed with this hotel right near the Charles Bridge.
The staff, friendly and helpful, the room lovely and the superb location all made the trip great.
The slight downside was the oft-maligned breakfast - there could have been a better selction of food, and there was always a queue for the toaster! But really, this did nothing to spoil the stay.
Great place to stay
This hotel is delightful and in a great location. The hotel is very charming and the rooms are lovely. Everything was very clean and nicely decorated. The hearty breakfast was a good start to the day and the cozy room was a great place to return to each day after sight seeing. The location was very convenient as it is right beside the Charles Bridge, but it is located down a nice quiet street so its not right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. There are beautifiul views of the river and the bridge from your room. A great stay- we would definately come back.
Excellent location, wonderful views
We stayed three days in Sept 2007, and had a wonderful time. We were in room 21, on the third floor, and although there was no lift, the stairs are easy. Our room was large, and cool, with windows onto the river - lovely to wake up with the reflection of the water on the ceiling. The bathroom is very small but adequate, but for a longer stay it would be cramped. The breakfast was fine, but it would be nice to have real orange juice included, rather than being charged extra. The hotel's restaurant is full of character, in vaults, although the food is not the very best in Prague. The service in the restaurant is great, quick and attentive, and they let us take a glass of wine upstairs to finish in our room - although as another review says, the minibar is well priced. The location of the hotel could not be better, close to the centre of interesting Prague, but quiet. Loads of restaurants and bars nearby, all good value. We ate by the river several times, watching the boat traffic. I would definitely go back here.
Rooms nice, but don't go in the bar....
Rooms were nice, but very disappointed with the service in the bar/restaurant.
We wanted a small beer each, so I asked at the bar (no mention of talbe service), we were ignored, then looked at us like we were criminals, eventually a man brought them over, turns out they just wanted to add a service charge to our bill, for walking past me with my beer and placing it on a table 4 feet away (the closest table to the bar!)
When we asked for the bill, they grossly overcharged us, (650 crowns for 4 beers!), mumbled "including service charge" and walked away ! I gave them 800, expecting change, but he refused, just put the notes in his pocket and walked away.
The rooms may be nice, but have a drink and something to eat somewhere else !!!
Fantastic Hotel in a great location
This hotel is in the perfect location. It is as close to one of the best locations in Prague, the Charles Bridge as you could want, this is also an excellent landmark for finding your way around the City. It is right next to the river and in a very quaint square but was not noisy. Perfect!
We took the bus (No.119) and the metro to the closest stop and then walked the rest. This was a 5-10min walk and was a nice way to start the holiday. A Taxi would have cost around £20. The bus/metro option cost under £2 for two of us.
The main attraction of his hotel is that it is close to everything but still far enough away so as not to be ruined by 100s of folk walking past the hotel making lots of noise.
We stayed here at the end of October of 2007 for 3 nights. This was in half term but was still considered by most people as being off season. This was great as it meant we did not spend hours queuing for any of the attractions.
When we were given our room overlooking the main square we were told straight away that we could change rooms if we were not entirely happy, there was however no need the room was great. The reception staffs were incredibly friendly and informative.
The room was large with a good en-suite shower room. There was no bath but this was not an issue as we would not have used it anyway.
Breakfast was a good continental spread with the usual assortment of eggs, sausages and bacon. Lots of cold meat, bread and cheeses to chose from. A very good start to the day!
The only negative thing I could say about the room was the bed. It was 2 twins pushed together. One mattress would have been better. They were comfortable, but still...
Prague is an incredibly beautiful place! Our stay at the hotel helped make it a great experience. I would have no problems with staying at this hotel again.
We booked with Lastminute.com and got a good price for the hotel.
Fantastic and Romantic
I went to Prague for the first time with my boyfriend. We are both in our 20s. We wanted a nice sightseeing break. Booked this hotel through reservehotel.com, was definitely the cheapest rate. 250 euro for 3 nights. We were so pleasntly surprised when w arrived. Transport by taxi in prague is renowned for being unpedictable and expensive so the locatio of this hotel is amazing. We were literally at the charles bridge. Near loads of lovely restaraunts in lesser town. 5 mins from the old town and a 10 minute walk up to the castle. It was also only a ten minute walk to all the shops in the city too. Te room iself was fantastic!! More like a little apartment than a hotel room. Very very spacious and airy. Big Bathroom and great shower! My ONLY complaint really was that it was not a double bed but 2 twins pushed together and a bit of a gap. Bar that no problems! There is s a minibar in the room and the prices are a little dearer than if you left the hotel but we used it anyway and racked up a billl of about 900ck (about 35 euro) but when were checking out, they only charged us 500csk (about 20). If you have never been to prague and want a fab hotel in a great location go here!!!I cant think of anyone who it wouldnt suit!
