Change. Coins.. Etc.

by petitrenard

Hi
I will be going to Prague in two weeks and I have czech currency but the lowest denomination is 200. I do not have any coins.
Is there a special place or counter or machine where I can get coins and low denomination bills? I recall that in Buenos Aires they had a special counter in the Retiro terminal just exchanging coins for bills.

Also will the metro/tram ticket machines give change?
Thanks!

Have a Bud (0.5 ltr) at about 30 CKR in a local cafe and you're all set for coins. I did the same 2 weeks ago in Decin (Czech Rep), simply bought something small.
200 CKR is only 8 euro (or 11 USD).

I was about to suggest buying a coffee at the airport when you arrive but yep a beer is just as good (if not better). A 200 crown bill isn't particularly large and so getting change is no problems. I don't know about the metro/tram machines as I just bought a 7-day pass from the office at arrivals and so never had to use them - there is though (as someone posted relatively recently) a discrepancy between the fares of the various passes and you might be better off buying three day passes (or something like that) - anyway all the public transport info is on the site: http://www.dpp.cz/en/

There is no machine/counter to get coins and metro/bus ticket machines do not take bills, but give change (by the way, lowest bill is 100 CZK, sometimes you can encounter 50 CZK bills but these will cease to circulate soon).

You have to buy something small or You can buy public transport ticket/pass in the booth in the arrival hall (available in both terminals).

If you want a local guide

by DavyJB

When we first went to Prague we were only there for 2 full days so we decided to hire a local guide for him to impart his knowledge about this wonderful city. The guide we found was a guy named Jay Pesta and if you don't have much time to see the city I can highly recommend him, his knowledge about the city was fantastic and he showed us places we wouldn't have known about even when we returned for a longer stay later on in the year.
You can contact him through his website http://www.prague-walks.com/index.htm

Marriage & Carriage at Old Town Hall

by Mikebb

For those interested in weddings and honestly how many women (and men) do not stop and have a look when a couple are getting married. The Old Town Hall is a favoured place for weddings and whilst we were in the old town square we saw a couple leave the town hall and get into a beautiful horse drawn carriage. What a way to go and they had a captured audience.

Just wander around

The best thing about Prague is the little streets, away from big tourist attractions - they are just as clean, beautiful and manicured as the rest of them, but much quieter - and maybe even more picturesque.
