Safe hostel in good location

by tuff

First time in Prague, can anyone recommend a decent and safe hostel in Prague?

Re: Safe hostel in good location

by coramper

i'm also doing current research on hostels in prague. look at reviews on both www.tripadvisor.com and www.hostelworld.com to get an overview of all the different properties. lots and lots of choices, so it can be a bit overwhelming. hostel rosemary looks pretty good to me and has gotten good reviews. also, need to decide if you are doing the dorm thing, or if you need a private room, if needs to be ensuite or not... not all hostels offer all the options. book as far in advance as possible...i'm leaving in just a couple of days on an unexpected trip and there are not a lot of choices still available. good luck! susan

Travel Tips for Prague

Expensive.

by a5floor

Prague is expensive compared to the rest of the country. But still it is not that expensive for most of the people who are visiting Prague.
In the centre of Prague, it can be more expensive than farther away from the centre. So, try to find some outside the centre.

Avenue into the Old Town

by mrclay2000

Celetna is a fine narrow avenue that winds from the awesome Powder Gate (the entrance to the Old Town) to the Old Town Square, Prague's most elegant and most sought-after setting for Praguers and visitors alike. If you're heading OUT from Celetna through the Powder Gate, the famous restaurant Obecni Dum (featured in XXX) is just around the corner to the left.

Changing of the guards

by Helga67

The changing of the guards at the Prague Castle is every hour from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.. However, try to be there at noon on the inner square at the main entrance. Then it is relieve of the guards accompanied by music.

Mausoleum on a hill

by Martin_H

The Mausoleum, also known as the Zizkov monument is atop a narrow hill in the Zizkov district. It was built in the early 20th century to commerate the victory of Jan Zizka after whom Zizkov was named) and the Hussites over the Papist forces in 1420.
It was used as an ammunition store by the Nazis in WWII and the communists tried to make it into the equivalent of the Lenin Mausoleum in Red Square by embalming and displaying Czechoslovak premier Klement Gottwald (at least until he started to rot away).
It also doubled up as the tomb of the unknoewn soldier.

Diorama

by M0B1US

I've put this into the Off The Beaten Path as without this tip, there is a very real chance that you might miss this little gem...

If you decide to take the trip up to the top of the Old Town Hall Tower, you will pass a non descript corridor seemingly leading nowhere and unmarked...

Obviously my natural curiosity led me down this route and voila - here I was in an exposition about architecture and public works in Prague, as well as a giant diorama of Prague city centre complete with a lighting system to highlight all the city's main attractions...

Not bad for a piece of 3-D orientation!

The attraction lit in my picture is the Observation Tower on Petrin Hill.
