Romance in January
by regrets
My Girlfiend is currently teaching a semester in ALbania and I will be without her beautiful face for 5 months. We are however planning a rendezvous in Prague in late December early January. We are both hopelessly in love and hopelessly romantic, and I would love to here any suggestions for Romantic times in Prague. Feel free to use your imagination, I'm interested in any answers.
Thanks in advance,
Regrets.

My first travel with my wife was precisely to Praha and in January of 1979.
We had wonderful time, except... if was extremely cold.
Hate to say, but maybe you guys should check out close-by Ohrid (easy and cheap by bus from Tirana).
As for you: the travel within East/Central Europe is very reasonable, so you guys maybe are better off in Ohrid, Macedonia that time. Not any less romantic than Praha in my opnion, very exotic (for you), full of ancient Byzantine architecture and guaranteed NOT COLD!

I went to Prague last December (alone) with a group. I went on a side excursion to a spa town called Karlovy Vary. The group I went with chartered a bus, but I saw a small bus station there. I was told there are buses from Prague. There are a lot of souvenir shop and porcelain shops. It's also filled with out-of-the-way cafes. If you go, try the Elephant cafe. It's where Goethe wrote his books.

Spend some time on Kampa Island. It's under Charles Bridge.
Have dinner at Archa Restaurant. This is not far from Betlehem Chapel, in the city center.
Do a stroll on Petrin Hill.

Travel Tips for Prague
Even Superheroes have Bad Days
by easyoar
This sculpture of Superman is all the more unfortunate when you consider what happened to Christopher Reeve after he fell off a horse head first (It's titled "Even Superheroes have bad days".
In case you didn't know Christoper Reeve played Superman several times in films made around the 1980's. Later on he was horse riding and was thrown off to land on his head and break his neck. He survived but was massively paralysed. He died a few years ago as a result of the paralysis.
I'm not sure whether this sculpture plays on this theme or is just indicating that everyone has a bad time sometimes. If you look at my second photo here it gives you the artists interpretation of this sculpture. More livening up of Wenceslas Square

remember at least one of the most known adjectives connected with Prague: THE STONE PRAGUE, PRAGA TOCIUS BOHEMIAE DOMINA (Prague, the Lady of Whole Bohemia), PRAGA CAPUT REGNI (Prague, the Head of the Kingdom - this latin phrase is usually translated by Czech lazy student as 'Prague destroyed by the rain' :)), THE GOLDEN PRAGUE, THE 100TOWERED PRAGUE, PRAGUE - THE HEART OF EUROPE, PRAGUE - THE ROME OF THE NORTH
Dress Codes
by anglosaxon
Dress codes are strictly enforced. These will range from "no armless" shirts or vests, up to the requirement of a tie depending on the restaurant. Sports shorts are often refused but, tailored shorts are OK. Trainers are often OK but, trainers without socks may get you barred. The owner of the bar etc may try to accomodate you i.e. eating inside is not possible but, outside is ok. Signs saying no T-Shirts are to put off the masses but, the same sign in a good restaurant will also bar Polo shirts as well.
Zoo Prague - No 7 in the world!
by r13
I know. most of the tourists come to see the architecture.
But Prague Zoo is now ranked No 7 best in the world by Forbes!!
It is well worth the visit. Especially the "Polynesian jungle" pavilion which is the biggest tropical pavilion in Europe. It is truly amazing!
Now Prague ZOO has 7 Indian Gavial crocodiles from 19 living outside India - the only place in Europe!
Take bus N112 from "Nadrazi Holesovice".
From April 5th till October there will be special (FREE !!) "ZOO" bus line on weekends and public holidays.
It will also start from "Nadrazi Holesovice", directly to Zoo without stops, interval 10 minutes, 9-18 h.
Nearby is also Botanic garden.
Church of St Michael
by sandysmith
Towards the top of Petrin Hill is this 18th century wooden folk church which was moved here from a village in the Ukrraine. Just a pity there was building work or path maintenance going on as it made it difficult to get a proper look.
Questions and Answers
Q: Prague public transportation "Hello VT;
I'm so confused how the 1 day or 3 days pass works. It says that you have to validate the pass/ticket before..."
A: "You validate it once and then it is good for the 24/72 hours on all public transport whether metro, bus or tram."
