 | | | | Carpe Diem Bed & Breakfast: A home away from home | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
First impressions, we found, are not always accurate. We arrived at the Carpe Diem B & B about 10:00 p.m. and were a little put off. A big part of the reason was that we were knowingly royally ripped off by the taxi driver who charged us about 6 times what the fare should have been. The street is narrow and was not well lighted and the entrance was in a dark massive stone building. When I rang the bell there was no answer so I rang again. Then a lady’s voice answered and I told her who we were. She apologized for thinking we were not coming due to the late hour but assured me she would dress and come right down (she had evidently gone to bed). Then we faced climbing 5 flights of stairs with our luggage in tow. I told my wife that evening that we could look for another place to stay the next day. However, it turned out to be one of the best accommodations we had on our trip. Carpe Diem is run by Ms. Marcella Ku’kova and her mother and is a wonderful place. Our room was huge - a double and single bed, a large sofa and coffee table and a crystal chandelier hanging in the middle. We did share a bathroom and toilet but both were spotless. Also, I think they have only 2 rooms so there is not a long wait even if someone is occupying one of them. .
Ms. Ku’kova’s mother speaks only German but did the cooking each morning for our breakfast. What a treat! We had scrambled eggs with bits of ham in them, sides of cheese and ham, fried eggs with sausages, pancakes with marmalade folded in, wonderful breads. They were all freshly prepared and accompanied by slices of tomatoes and cucumbers which they had grown. Also the apricot and apple marmalade was made by Ms. Ku’kova’s mother who was a delight. And wonderful turkish coffee each morning. As an added bonus, the price list indicated there were laundry facilities available for about $5. When I inquired she said, just leave it and I will wash and hang it on the balcony. When we returned that evening the clothes were dry and neatly folded on our bed. Obviously I give Carpe Diem my highest recommendation Leave a Comment Theme: Bed and BreakfastPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Kremencova 3Directions: About 2 blocks from the New Town Hall Tower. 5 minute walk from the Tram stop, 10 minutes to Narodni Tr metro stop, maybe 15 minutes to Old Town Square.Website: www.bedand breakfastprague.com/main-en.html Other Contact: email: carpediem.praha.seznam.cz

 | | | | Imperial: Old World Grandeur and a price you can afford! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This venerable former luxury hotel built in 1914 was a great place to stay in the centre of Prague, combining old world character with very reasonable prices including breakfast in the morning. It is open 24hrs and the ceramic tiled interiors of the entrance hall and the cafe on the ground floor are claimed to be the only originals of their type in the world - they are certainly very beautiful and if you check the website, you will be able to see pictures of both these areas. The rooms are fairly basic and none are ensuite due to the age and historic value of the hotel, but in my mind it is a small price to pay to appreciate the faded granduer of this place. Although the temperatures outside were frequently below freezing, the room temperatures were always very pleasant. I actually booked this hotel through the website listed below which worked perfectly fine with no problems and best of all there were no commission charges...
Breakfast is taken in a room behind the coffee shop which is covered with ceramics from floor to ceiling. The breakfast is basic but good value. | | | | Travellers Hostel: Traveller's Hostel Dhloua | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
People seem to love this place. I stayed there because it was my last night and my hostel didn't have rom for me, thus making me have to move. It's an odd place with a great location-literally steps from Old Town and the metro stop. But after staying in a room for two it was odd switching to a room for 28. People were coming and going at 3 in the morning, the place was as dark as a dungeon, and they must have a problem with thefts because there were signs all over the place telling us not to leave our items unattended. I didn't need to use the kitchen since I only stayed one night, but it didn't look like much. It was very tiny. I was able to rent an alarm clock and a towel, however, which came in handy. And if I was the partying type there was a hopping club called the Roxy next door that seemed to stay open all night. It wasn't a terrible experience, but it wasn't the best ever. The prices were good and the location good, but that was about it. I probably wouldn't stay there again.
Prices start at 9 euros a night for the 28 person dorm room. The 7th night is free. | | | | Tulip Inn Prague Terminus: ~ Luxrious & Spacious Rooms ~ | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This was a fantastic hotel in an excellent location close to the Old Town of Prague. It was also close to the Metro station for easy access to and from the airport. The rooms are very spacious with a living area and seats for you to relax with a drink and watch tv at night. Bathroom was very large with a separate bath and jacuzzi and a shower. The service was great at the hotel too, staff were welcomming and friendly and were never pushy for tips like some places ive been to. The hotel was really easy to find when we got off the metro. A map is always handy. Breakfast time was very varied with lots of choice, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, freshly squeezed juice. Cooked breakfast, toast, cereals, you name it. The hotel had something to suit all tastes. The hotel bar was very cheap too. Beer only costing 50 CZK for a bottle which filled a pint glass.
The best thing about the hotel was the rooms, we had a suite and a nice large double bed with a sofa and two chairs in the room with a small table. The room had a large mirror which was great when you were getting ready to go out for the evening to look at your clothes. There were lovely silk curtains in the room which looked smart and luxrious. I really liked the bathroom too, a nice big bath with jacuzzi option on it too...very relaxing after a long day walking around Prague. Large mirror all around the room and bathroom. I also liked the fact that the hotel provided your room with a free safe to use too. The only thing id say that lets the hotel down is the view from the rooms. With it being on the outskirts of the town, there is just a view of the busy roads. Other than that i would still recommend this hotel to anyone looking for luxury accommodation in an excellent location. It is within 5 minutes walk from the main town of Prague.
