tour of old town

by princess1931

I have read somewhere in a review (can't remember where) that there is a free guided tour of the old town on a donation basis. Does anyone out there know anything about this and details of where it starts from. \would be very grateful for any information. Thank you

You are thinking of a company called Sandemans New Europe. There are two tours per day at 11am and 2pm departing from Old Town Square. You can find out all the details on their website:

http://newpraguetours.com/daily-tours/new-prague-free-tour.html.

I havent done the tour myself but have seen the tour in the Old Town area. They seem popular, meaning there will be a lot of others around you at all times. I suppose its a good way to find out where the main sites are and then you can return to explore them at your leisure if you have time.

In december 2009,I was in Prague and we toured the Old Town area by ourselves. It was a bit crowded with tourists and most were in a group tour but there were also people who were with local guides(mostly youngsters) who relied on tips from the tourists.I think the "free tour" started from the Old Town square then went on to Charles Bridge area.If your hotel is near the Old Town then you can just walk going there and wait near the Astronomical clock where they usually assemble and wait for people who are interested to join. The tips are usually given after the tour ends.

Travel Tips for Prague

The Weather

by Neit

I really love the rain and cloudy days. But we didn't see the sun in seven days, so finally I yearned a sunny day. I think the reason is that, during all the day, you cannot feel if it's 10 o'clock in the morning or 5 o'clock in the afternoon. All the day seems the same.

Old Town Square. So much to...

by dj77

Old Town Square. So much to see. Its little winding streets (lined with shops and restaurants) and picturesque groups of houses, The Town Hall, church of Our Lady Before Tyn, church of St.Nicholas. So much history and amazing architecture. The Astronomical Clock is of great interest to most. And the Old Town is also where Franz Kafka lived much of his life.

Beggars in Prague are very Humble

by dibenjamin

It's hard to talk about this without sounding like a jerk but I used to live in San Francisco, where the homeless think it's perfectly acceptable to try to entertain you with the wits that got them to where they are today, and failing that, they get aggressive. At some point you just wish for a little peace.

The beggars in Prague give you peace. They are the most humble beggars I have ever seen. They curl up with their faces to the street and their hands clutching a cup. It's sad to see a person reduced like that but it's also impressive in a way.

Forget about traveller's cheques

by OlafS

In 1995 I brought traveller's cheques only to find out I could take money 'out of the wall' with my normal bank card almost everywhere! Exchanging the cheques was no problem with any bank but it sure was time consuming. There are plenty of ATM's all over the centre so why bother?

Pizzeria GIALLOROSSA!

Pizzeria GIALLOROSSA!
INCREDIBLE!
Here in Prague, just behind the Old Town Square! A place for real AS Roma supporters!
I'm so proud of it.
The small shop's walls are filled with posters and scarves celebrating the AS Roma team.
The people working there seem praguese any way. NO PROBLEM!
