Christmas Day Mass in English

by oRi_5

My husband and me are going to be in Prague for Christmas and being Catholic we would like to attend mass - preferably in English so we can understand it. I've tried looking up some info and it seems that there is an English speaking Mass at St. Thomas church. Does anyone know at what time this would be held on Christmas day please? Also any directions/address to get there from Old Town - Na Porici, Praha 1 would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the church website with email links (scroll down):

Christmas service dates are not yet displayed, but I'm sure you'll get a reply if you email them.

There are several churches with English services, but not sure about services on Christmas day - try to contact them by e-mail, list is here:

Also English speaking locals might give some advice - Expats forums are here:

To get there you can take a walk trough Charles bridge - 2.2 km, 30 min. Or take metro to Narodni trida (2nd station) and change to tram 22 to "Malostranske namesti" stop (4th stop). Both locations are very central tourist spots.

Definitely there will be services in English in several churches at different times, which probably have not been specified yet. Do not worry, if you stay in a hotel, they will help you to find the times and places on the internet.
St. Thomas church has regular services in English (as several other churches), it is in Lesser Town(Mala Strana), not far from MALOSTRANSKA metro station and just next to Malostranske namesti tram station (22,23, maybe other).

Thanks for all your replies. We'll ask around when we get there then.

Travel Tips for Prague

Small English comic theatre

by WrigleyTodd

In 98, we found a small English-spoken comedy theatre performing a history of Prague. We learned about it from a flyer that we found at the Bohemia Bagel restaurant. The location was in Rubin's Theatre I believe. They offer a pub crawl and Czech dinner too at the time.

Josefov, the jews...

by fandango

Josefov, the jews quarter.
Five synagogues (Maisel, spanish,Pinkas,Klaus and Staronova), the ceremonial hall and the old jew cementery are part of the Jew museum.
Specially recomended are the Staronova synagogue(pic) and the cementery(pic) where rabine Low (father of the mytical Golem) is buried. The visit to teese places is expensive specially if you compare that with Prague prices.
This quarter has too a lot of exuberant Art Nouveau buildings, and it has a high class atmosphere.

Mulled wine

by pugwashman

On almost every street corner you can buy a plastic cup of mulled wine which is just the trick to warm you up as you walk around the town. It only costs a few pence and really hits the spot when it's getting chilly in the evening, and even when it's not.

The TipSport Sports Bar

by St_Vincent

Not exactly off the beaten track but you might not think of going in as primarily this is a betting shop run by TipSport bookmakers. However it also has a bar and three TV screens showing live sport including all football games on Sky. An added draw is a large electronic roulette wheel giving you the chance to win some money for the night out. Located on Ve Smeckach just off Wenceslas Square and next to two "gentlemen's" cabaret clubs it is a popular stop off for the many stag groups that abound in Prague. Another very poor photo accompanies this tip, taken on a mobile phone by my mate Peter. With a lot of imagination you can see a couple of us sitting at the roulette wheel, either that or we are being abducted by aliens.

Cold War Memorial in Mala Strana

by yooperprof

Nudes Descending a Staircase? or an existential statement about the vulnerability of mankind to the effects of nuclear radiation? I'm not sure what it means, but this memorial to the victims of Communism is certainly evocative. It's in the park at the base of Petrin Hill, close to the station for the funicular to the top.
