Real Prague
The Clown and Bard is located in the Zizkov district of Prague and gives you a chance to see the everyday life of Prague away from the over populated central attractions. There's a bar in the basement for getting to know people before moving out to the 'locals'. The hostel attracts those keen on the nightlife.
The football club Victoria Zizkov is also located nearby, handy if there happens to be a game on.

Hostel in Prague
I selected Clown and Bard because I had read good things about it on the internet. You have to climb a very steep hill to get to the hostel, and with a backpack it can be a challenge. Once I arrived though, I knew I had selected the right place!
Don't expect to get a good nights sleep at C&B, and don't expect to not get swept up in the happenings there! It's a great hostel where I found some of the best people in Prague to hang out with.
Unique Quality: Has a bar in the lower level that closes fairly early.

Clown & Bard Hostel
I definitely recommend the "Clown & Bard" hostel in Prague. Stay in one of the 5/6 bed dorms, rather than the big dorm (36 beds!).
The atmosphere in the bar downstairs is great every evening (only 18Kr for a pint/half litre of beer - thats about 50c!!!), and it's really close to the city centre - just hop on a number 9 tram for 3 stops, and you are in Wencelas Square.
There is also a great little restaurant across the road. If you stand at the door of the C&B, look right. There's a sort of Y in the road, and in the middle of that is an Italian restaurant. They have GREAT food, and friendly service - and it's all really, really cheap.

The Clown and Bard
Unique Quality: Although I lived in an apartment in Zizkov, a bunch of my Irish mates stayed here and loved it. It is connected to a pub, after all.

plenty of leary student type nightclubs in Prague centre eg Karlovy Lažne. if you want something a little more sophisticated then try mecca a short cab ride away. Much better club (and usually djs' and the drinks are fairly cheap)

Best bet for footie is Hvezda Sports Bar, right off Wenceslas Square on a street called Ve Smekach. It's not your typical Irish/English sports bar, and it attracts a lot of people who live in the city. Beer's dirt cheap and there's food aswell. It gets pretty sweaty in there during the summer, but there's usually a good atmosphere.
You'll have a good night out pretty much wherever you go, but check out my page for more detailed suggestions. As for accommodation, have a look at Clown & Bard - it's a hostel, but if you can get reservations, it's one of the liveliest places to stay in Prague, right out in Zizkov, which is great for weird and wonderful pubbing, and you can usually find a spliff in the basement bar, if that's your bag.
Have a good time!
