We booked this hotel through www.hotelsczech.com. We paid US$69 per room per night including breakfast. The hotel is fantastic for the price we paid, though we did book it well in advance. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't want to pay city centre prices but wants luxury for an affordable price.
Unique Quality: The hotel is very grand from the outside, which does not disappoint in the inside. This hotel used to be a building for the government, but is now a four star hotel. We were on the fifth floor overlooking the back of the hotel with far reaching views. Breakfast was great with everything from pastries to fry ups.
Directions: Take a taxi from the airport for 550-650KC or catch bus 119 to Dejvicka and then tram 8 to the hotel. To get into the city centre, you take tram 8 to Dejvicka and then the metro into the city which is only three stops away.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza. I had been concerned about the distance out of the centre, but the location was fine as there are pretty good tram connections. (There is a tram station right outside). However, I didn't feel that the hotel stood up to the normal Crowne Plaza standards (4 star plus). There were stains on the bed cover. We weren't sure whether these were coffee or blood, but either way it's not what you expect for £100 a night (150 Euro). I know that Prague has an unusual proliference of cubist buildings but I wasn't particularly thrilled by the view out of our window (shown in the picture). The bed seemed worn and the room was noisy (our bed was about 3 feet away from the place where everyone waited for the lift). An alternative room was offered but this was at the front of the hotel and suffered a lot of road noise.
I've put more detail on my travelogue.
150 Euro double room off peak.
Unique Quality: The building is said to be modelled on the KGB headquarters. The style is very distinctive and visible from as far away as Petrin.
