Prague's rip off

I didn't like this hotel. It's cheap, but I wouldn't say it's a 4 star hotel, a poor 3 star at best. The rooms smelt of smoking, and wasn't properly cleaned. We only stayed for one day, so we didn't complain. The hotel was a bit outside the city, and it was a 20min walk to the closest metro station. In stead of this hotel I would recommend Hotel Barcelo, witch is far nicer. This also a bit out of the city, but close to metro-station so it isn't a problem.

Unique Quality: Long walk to metro, cheap, 3-star, smoky rooms

Very good hotel

I stayed in Hotel Duo for four nights in December (2006), two people.

Staff is very professional, suite room fantastic!

Breakfast : good with a nice selection of fruits, breads, cakes and cheeses/ham..

Cleaning : great

Staff : very helpful

Location / Transports : 7/8 km from city centre.
It's necessary to take free bus of the hotel (or public bus n° 134,145,156,177,187) to Ladvi, terminus of the line C of the metro). And from Ladvi.. 5 stops and you are in town centre, at muzeum!
If you want to arrive in Old-Town Square, you have to change line (take line A in direction Dejvická to Staromestska).

Suggestion : buy a three/seven days ticket for public transports (metro+bus+tram) in some central metro station.

Dìkuji vám Hotel DUO!!

Good hotel but too far from town

this was an average hotel. rooms and restaurants and bars were quite good, but the sports/leisure facilitires, which was one of the reasons we chose it, were closed.
it was a 20 min taxi ride to the town centre. next time i would choose a hotel nearer town.

Hotel Duo

The big Hotel Duo is located in a suburb of Prague, with the city centre at 30 minutes away with public transportation. The hotel consists of two towers with approx. 15 floors each. Lots of rooms: 612 of them...

The hotel has a pool, bowling lanes, two restaurants, a fitness-area and a sauna. So enough to do there. When you enter the Hotel through the mainentrance it looks like you enter Disneyland. Lots of colours and happy paintings. It's only the entrance though that looks child-friendly: don't expect a Mickey Mouse during breakfast. Instead it's possible that you have to queue for breakfast, because there is only one space used for breakfast. Waiting up to 10 minutes is well possible when the hotel is packed.

The hotel is alright as long as you don't expect a nice and cosy small hotel. It's an hotel for full busses of tourists, easy to reach and they have everything. It's a 4 stars hotel, but to be honest I would prefer it a bit less mass-focussed.

Far from city centre but with all the facilities!

We booked our holiday by internet so we didn't know what to expect from the hotel. They always place nice photos on the website but sometimes they have little "tricks" to show the place nicer!

We arrived to the hotel by tube & bus from the city centre, it took us about 30 minutes. And we were indeed very happy with our choice!
There is a big reception room with a lot of sofas, 3 restaurants, very nice rooms (although we didn't get a bath tub, just shower!), swiming pool, massages, gym and even bowling!!!!!

I cannot tell you the staff was really friendly because I didn't find locals to be friendly either! But we forgot some items and (they like to take their time to do things) we are in the process to received them!

A good point to note is that underground service ar being built just in front of the Hotel!

Unique Quality: Swimming pool
Massage service
Bowling
Gym
3 Restaurants

Lots to keep you occupied

20 minutes from town center,40 minutes from the airport,it was a lovely hotel to stay in,The food was lovely (see restaurant tips),very friendly staff, clean and well worth staying there.
The staff were helpful in the usual way, changing money, telling us about public transport etc.

Unique Quality: Had a pool,no time to use to busy sight seeing,it also has a casino, sauna and a ten pin bowling alley.

Quiet but too far from main drag

The hotel is quite far from the city center where all the action is. Its about a 40 minute commute to get to the city center by the public transportation and I wouldnt feel comfortable riding the subway after 9 pm especially if you look like a tourist. It cost me 350 Ck one time by cab and 500 CK another (for the same route!)

Unique Quality: The breakfast is quite good. Dinner entrees are very tasty and prices very reasonable. The hotel was full (it has 1200 beds) and still quiet. The hotel facade is very different from other hotels in the city. It is somewhat funky. The hotel has swimming pool and bowling available for extra but reasonable fee.

More about Duo Hotel Praha

Hotel Duo - give it a try!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

I have just got back from staying at this hotel, and have just read other reviews. Yes it is not in a great part of prague, but is near to a tube station (Ladvi) so is easily accesible. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly (although some did have sour expressions - no different to London then?!) Breakfast was served in one of the restaurants, and had an excellent selection of hot and cold foods.

The hotel provides a taxi service to and from the airport at 600 Korunas one way (about £14) and is certainly better and cheaper than waiting around for a taxi at the airport. It also provides a free shuttle to the nearest tube station (takes less than 5 mins), so you should be in the city centre (Muzeum, or Starometskza) in less than 30 min. There were road works going on, as the tube line is being extended to be outside the hotel so in future the city will be even easier to access.

October/November

by Kim

Can anyone tell me how the weather is in Prague at the end of October Beginning of November?

Is there still plenty to do at this time of year?

And any info for me about Hotel Duo, which is where I'm hoping to stay?

Thanks very much.

Hi,

Average temperature can be around 15 C. Sometimes is not so pleasant to walk outside, but architecture is the same all year round.

Hotel Duo is located in out-of-centre "sleeping district" of Prague, which means you will find nothing exciting around your hotel. You have take a bus which is the only means of thansportation in that part of the city (tend to be crowded most part of the day)to reach metro(or tram). Calculated time to reach city centre is around 30- 40 min., but you can easily get stuck in the trafic while on the bus.
