Urgent : Please suggest Night travel option Prague-Warsaw

by srav

Dear Friends,

I need your suggestions/help.

I am planning to travel form Prague to Warsaw on this coming 2 Nov night, back to Prague on 4 Nov (Travelling 3 Nov night from Warsaw - Prague)

Being a student, looking for the cheapest "Budget travel" option.

(Please don't post/answer something like Walk..)

I looked for Eurolines Bus & it is about (1732 czk)

For this Should i Book in advance or can i buy few hours before the departure ?

ELSE..................

I heard that If I follow the following steps it can be still cheap (But RISKY ????? !!!!!!!).

But don't know how exactly it works ...i mean which type of train... etc etc,..( I don't speak either Czech or Polish..can manage a bit with English)

STEP 1

Buying a ticket In train (?) until the Czech border station Petrovice.

STEP 2

Again a special train ticket in train (?) across the border from Petrovice to Zebrzydowice

STEP 3

Finally, Buying a ticket in Train (?) from Zebrzydowice to Warszawa.

Can anyone tell me how much it costs ???

If I catch/take a direct train (sleeping/seat couch..something like that ...) how much it costs??

(I don't have any rail pass...)

Else is there any other cheap means of transport ?

If anyone can suggest/ help in this regard I would be Grateful & Thankful to you all...

Best wishes

Warm regards!

Sravani !

You can get train schedules and prices for trains in English by googling DB Schedule info.

I was just in Prague and almost everybody speaks English, I got my tickets for a train from Prague to Vienna at the station in Prague, no problem with no Czech. I don't think you need to book in advance...there is at least one train with no transfers. They don't give the prices but I think it would be around 50 euro first class

Travel Tips for Prague

Vltava river

by Helga67

Vltava river is the longest river in Czech republic and goes straight through the center of Prague. From the river you'll have beautiful views, especially towards Mala Strana and Prague castle. There are several bridges crossing the river, of which Charles Bridge is the most special one.

History

by kris-t

According to legends, Princess Libuše, the sovereign of the Czech tribe, married a humble ploughman by the name of Pøemysl and founded the dynasty carrying the same name. The legendary Princess saw many prophecies from her castle Libusin, which was located in central Bohemia. (Archaeological finds dating back to the seventh century support the theory of the castle's location). In one prophecy, it is told, she foresaw the glory of Prague. One day she had a vision: "I see a vast city, whose glory will touch the stars! I see a place in the middle of a forest where a steep cliff rises above the Vltava River. There is a man, who is chiselling the threshold (prah) for the house. A castle named Prague (Praha) will be built there. Just as the princes and the dukes stoop in front of a threshold, they will bow to the castle and to the city around it. It will be honoured, favoured with great repute, and praise will be bestowed upon it by the entire world."

Them tourists!

by sabsi

What I found annoying (and I bet all the Czech people hate it even more!) were the tourists who were talking about how cheap Prague is all the time and who were acting like the rich uncle from the west boasting with their money etc etc etc. Disgusting!
But I'm sure no real tourist would act like that!

About the picture:
Do you know Karel Gott???!?! I guess he is only known in Germany - don't even know about Czech Republic... He is Czech - and he sings German 'Schlager' songs (the Eurovision in the 70s kind of music). His most famous song is the starting track of a childrens cartoon series called 'Biene Maja' .. haha my favourite when I was around 5 ;) Anyway, I assume someone had sprayed Karel at the wall there - and later someone (maybe German) wanted to make a joke and wrote Gott behind it ;) That's why I took a picture!

Church of the Sacred Heart

by Veroali

Church of the Sacred heart (Kostel Nejsvetejsiho srdce Pane) is located in George of Podebrady square (Namesti Jiriho z Podebrad), where i used to live. It is just 15 min walking from Museum or 2 tram stops.
It is a modern church, built in 1928 by a slovenien architect Josip Plecnik. The work on building had to be stopped three times, because there were no money for it. Than later it was finished with half of the budget.
Every morning at 7 o'clock the bells woke me up. The other time when bells ring is at 6 pm, when the mass takes place. Till 2010 was possible to get inside only during mass, but now the church became the National monument and should be open for public. I have been inside and must say, as big and montrous it looks from outside, the bigger it looks inside. The stairs to the clock tower and corridors are made in pure funkcionalist style, which is seen all over.

If you come all the way to see this church, just walk 1 min to the left and visit also Zizkov tower (television tower).

Seek out the miners.........

by leics

You're pretty much bound to visit St Vitus' Cathedral on the Hrad (along with hundreds of other people, no doubt). You won't be able to miss the stunningly obvious tomb of St John of Nepomuk, dating from 1736 and made of solid silver (must be hell to polish up), with silver angels flying above.

But, just past this monstrosity, on the corner of the Royal Oratory (linked to the royal bedroom by a bridge) is the statue of a miner (and there's another one facing him on the tomb side).

It was the silver miners of Kutna Hora whose hard work provided both the wealth and the silver for such excesses of elaboration. It's nice to see them being commemorated.
