Tragic Beginning, Happy Ending
Arrived by train as scheduled only to find that the hostel was overbooked and were bumping us out for our three night stay. The provided two options for the same price we paid for their lodging :: (1) Stay in a flat with a Czech family that spoke no English but some French (I do speak some French and so did one of my mates but the third knew none) or (2) stay in a three bed private apartment of our own.
"It's not so far from the city center" the guy said, then sent us with a Czech man who spoke very little english and took us "not so far from the city center" (read :: quite far from the city center; we were almost at the top of the hill with the TV tower).
The place was pretty disappointing. The first night was chilly and the heat never came on so we all snuggled.
The second night the heat came on.
The happy ending was that we did enjoy the company of Prague's student population since we were out of the tourist district. We chose to go out to Akropolis, a large club two blocks up the street. Had a brilliant time there. But I'll certainly not return to the Golden Sickle next time I'm in town.
Unique Quality: Outstandingly uncomfortable, cold, over booked.
Great Hostel For Travelers
A very good hostel. It was presentable and clean. The fellow guests make for good drinking friends. It is very close to the center if activity in the city, within walking distance of most attractions( A 2 min. walk to Wenceslas Square). It is a smoking hostel which is also a pluse, hanging out the window smoking a cig, a great view. Right outside the hotel is a bar. I forget the name, but it looks tiny from the outside and on the first floor. Then you walk downstairs and it never ends. The "Cave Bar" as we called it is an great pre-club bar.

Top-Notch Hostel for Youth
This is a very laid back, non-HI hostel. The staff are fantastic. They are not too "busy" to help you, and one night the woman came out to a bar with us. The two dorm rooms sleep about 10, and they have some private rooms on another level.
The best part about this hostel is that _everyone talks_. It is a great place for people traveling alone like I was.
Of the hostels I have been to in Europe, this is only one of two that I would adamantly recommend.
Unique Quality: Free Internet use (cable modem)
