The Boathouse Hostel: a good place to stay

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 22, 2009

I stayed in this hostel for five days in September 2008 and had a great stay there. It's not in the center, but the public transport is very good and easy, so that's not a problem at all. The ladies of this hostel are all very lovely -- they even gave us a breakfast the evening before our departure, since we had to leave early to catch our plane. The walls of the hostel are filled with messages from people who have stayed there and it's really cosy. The sanitary is very clean and nice too and the home-cooked dinner is really good. I really loved it there and I recommend this hostel to everyone.

Unique Quality: It is in quiet place outside of the center to Prague, but very close to the public transport so you can reach the center easily. They offer homecooked dinner for very reasonable prices & it tastes delicious. I'm sure you feel at home in this hostel!

Directions: a quiet district outside of the center of Prague. It is in between several sport fields and it's a close walking distance to the public transport.

Great home cooking

Loved it - comfortable and affordable. Just remember, you're not staying in a 5 star hotel. You've chosen a hostel for a reason.

Unique Quality: Best home-cooked meals on the road that you will find. Especially after a few weeks of riding the trains from city to city.

Directions: A 20 minute ride on the tram south of the central city.

A relaxed vibe, down by the river

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on February 16, 2006

This hostel comes highly recommended. I made my way there through word-of-mouth, as had another good traveling friend I made during my stay there, and I can't disagree!

Certainly one of the best European hostels I've stayed in. Helpful staff, clean dorms, good facilities, no curfew and a decent breakfast. Okay so it's a little 'out of town', but it's worth the tram ride (20 mins from the old town at most) for the relaxed vibe here. It's also very good value for money compared to some of the more 'worn' city-center hostels. Defintely somewhere I'll return to when I next visit - in the meanwhile I'm happy to spread the word!

Directions: Getting off the southbound tram at the 'Cerny Kun' stop, turn towards the river, and follow the yellow sings. It's a five minute walk from the tram stop.

Nice, clean hostel but not in the city center.

The Boat house is very easy to find, located about 20 minutes on the tram south of the city center. It is about a 10 min walk toward the river from the tram. Easy to negotiate with luggage. It is on the river bank and is a very clean hostel. The owners are friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is free and they help with transportation and other arrangements.

Unique Quality: Beds are comfortable, nice big pillows. Spacious lockers and very clean bathrooms. Nice view from deck.

Directions: Branik area, take 3 or 17 to Cerny Kun, follow hostel signs toward river.

Best hostel

Hostel Boathouse was prob my best hostel experience in all of Europe. The hostel is a bit far from the main town, you have take the trolley back and forth, but its really not inconvenient since the tram runs so frequently. i think the tram ride was about 15-20 minutes.

The hostel owners were so incredibly nice. First off, they make the BEST breakfast. They also serve dinner, which is incredibly great and worth the cheap price. One day we decided to stay indoors since there was a snowstorm outside, so all of the students in the hostel had a lil get together in the main lounge. We got beer (very cheap) from the hostel store, and when the owners found out they whipped out bags of snacks & chips for our lil party free of charge. they were very sweet.

the hostel is spacious and clean, & had no curfew.

Unique Quality: breakfast, the owners

The Boathouse Hostel

It's been a few years but it was around $10 (300Kc?) a night.

Unique Quality: It's right on the river, which is nice, and in the summer you can hire boats. The women who run the place are wonderful. The food is fantastic too. Try the French Toast! Long after I moved out and into my own flat I went back for dinners. The rooms are comfortable and there are a few options available. It's very reasonably priced.

Directions: Prague 4, tram stop Cerny Kun on the no. 17 exit towards river and follow the yellow signs.

1st time in Prague, a few of the lads visited for a birthday party, this hostel is perfect, really good price and the breakfast was great, dining room was very clean.
Some would say it is a little bit out of the way but its only a 15min tram ride into town costing 24CZK (less than £1) or a 3 day unlimited tram pass for 310CZK (£10) or a 400CZK (£13) taxi ride which isn't too much trouble. We used our 3 day tram pass to get us to the airport on our way home, very easy and saves you the trouble of a taxi and the extra cost.
The hostel has very clean showers / toilets so don't worry about that, the rooms are basic and clean, anyone who says that they need updating or a lick of paint then go and stay in a hotel, what do you expect for the price ?
There is a bar which sells local beer at around 30CZK (£1) per pint which is ice cold and tastes great, they also do food, we sampled the food and you can't complain at all, we had a huge pork garlic steak meal which was great for less than £6 !!!!
I would recommend this to all my friends and family, I wouldn't try to sell it to them as a hotel but as a hostel you can't go wrong, it is situated next to a river and a golf course, 5 min walk to the tram stop and right next to a roller blade / cycle path which is well used, lots of cyclists and roller bladers stopped off for a quick drink at the bar.
NOTE : make sure you get the FULL address written down if you want to use the taxi's as only one or two taxi drivers actually knew where the hostel was, they all got there by phoning other drivers but it's something to bear in mind.

For the lads :
Slammer was a legend, the clock in the square was a highlight !!.
Shame the cock off was a non starter.
Big man happy birthday, see you next year in the shower...
Prague will miss us, hope to see them next year ??
