Fun and Friendly!

I stayed here two night, and it was an enjoyable experience. There was definitely a young crowd here, but I met some great people from all over! I found the service to be very good, and there were many conveniences. Being neither a partier nor beer drinker, I had to weave my way through a room full of people enjoying Czech beer before I could get back to my dorm at the hostel after some evening sightseeing. If you are a night owl, like to party and mingle, or enjoy Czech beer, then I'm sure you will love this place! I stayed in the larger dormitory because I was traveling on a very tight budget. It was not very loud in the dorm, but people were coming to bed very late. If you are a light sleeper this might bother you, so you may want to get a smaller room. When I stayed here 4 years ago, the cost was only about $8 a person/night. Now I think it is closer to $15, depending on when you go... still very reasonable. I would probably stay here again, because it is close to most of the major sights and was a nice hostel and inexpensive.

Unique Quality: I appreciated the luggage room, where I could check my pack instead of having to carry it around town. If you like beer, then you will love the convenience and availability of Czech beer in the fridge. They provide free internet access, which was very helpful! If you are a student, they will give a 5% discount if you stay in a dormitory.

Very clean hostel

We have rent a room with 6 bed, even the WC and bathrooms are shared, they were always clean. Both kitchen are always clean. There is a working women who is always cleaning something, do not put your bottles for more than 2 seconds. Beer is cheap, there is three computers with internet connection. You may not use USB or Bluetooth in computers. There is a little sitting room where people share their memories and play games etc. Did i say that it is cheap for all this conditions(We paid 11 Euros per night/winter season)

Unique Quality: It is 10 min walking distance to Florenc metro station. We have walked from Charles Bridge to Hostel Elf about 40 Min.(Middle of the night)

A great place to stay for cheap!

Mostly populated by backpackers from all over the world this very openminded and friendly and helpful staffed hostel is a great place to stay.

Even being the oldest person in the building I had a great time here. A great way to meet new people, hear travel experiences and play games and drink beers until 4 am.

If you look at the map you'll see the hostel is inbetween railroad tracks but the noise is only disturbing on the terrace.

Breakfast is simple ( ham or cheese rolls, sweet pastries, cerial, milk, cofee and tea ) but good.

Don't look at other reviews about this place... it was reasonable clean and there's no such thing as bed bugs and/or everlasting smell of "special" cigarettes although you will find every now and then some people using marihuna.

Unique Quality: No curfew, free internet (on 3 old computers, 1 in smoking and 2 in non-smoking area. During the day you need to wait a little since a lot of people do their travel planning on them. For those in a hurry there's an internet cafe just steps away from the hostel.

A great place to sleep in

I must say that of the few hostels I saw in Prague, none was spotless. But, I still had a wonderfultime at the hostel. The management is very friendly espcially Bare. If you see her, say hi! for me.

Unique Quality: there's free internet and they can store your luggage for free if you are only leaving in the night. Check out time is at 11am.

Cheap and decent place to stay

We stayed here for a few days in Prague as part of a college trip before we headed back to the U.S. It was a pretty good place to stay. Very inexpensive and seemed clean. They had pop and beer available to buy and breakfast out in the morning. Beware the stairs however. There's a lot of stairs heading up to the door and also a long set going down to the rooms on the bottom floor. There's also a small grocery store across the street and a bus stop right outside where you can catch the bus to get to Florenc metro station. Overall a good place to stay.

Prague's coolest hostel

We stayed there for a week. Even though we had GREAT time during the days when we walked all over Prague and saw the coolest things, we still had the best time at the hostel elf with all the people staying there! drinking vodka late at night! Also the people working at the reception at Elf were really nice all the time (reception was open 24h)!
Even though we were there during the high season at the end of July, the price for a private room for 4 people was only 8euros per night.
Elf is also about a 15 minute walk away from the Prague center which was nice too, we never had to use any trams or busses to get to the center from the hotel.
Oh yeah, and right across the street from Elf, there is an 24h cute little store with basically anything you need right away (alcohol, food, ice cream, anything).

I really recommend this hostel! When I'm going back to Prague I'll be definitely staying here again.
You should make a reservation beforehand to make sure you get the kind of room you want (a dorm or a private room).

A happening, colorful hostel...

This is a very busy and popular hostel for good reason. It's clean, comfortable, with a good location and helpful staff.

Unique Quality: The private rooms were very nice and fairly quiet considering how full the place was. It's the kind of place you can hang out and meet travelers if that is what you like, or you can do your own thing and not feel out of place. It's in a good neighborhood so you can walk back from the metro and there are buses if you don't feel comfortable walking at night. It was good value at less then $30 for a single including breakfast.

The Magic Hostel Elf

by northeast80

I stayed at the Elf hostel Feb 2008;

There was building work going on (though that was 2008 so it must be finished by now) and people can smoke in the common areas, it's definately cheap. They have single and double rooms available.
The free breakfast is a little random, could be a doughnut one morning, cerial the next and a sandwich roll the next. But there's free tea and coffee all day, kitchenette areas where you can cook for yourself, very cheep beer from their reception fridge, free internet. I had a great time there.
Clean rooms with wooden bunk beds and lockers in the rooms, you need your own padlock.
It is a walk to the centre area but easily done. In the low season you get the 5th night free
Free breakfast
Free tea & coffee all day
Free internet
24 hour reception
Great out door seating area which I'd have used if it wasn't February!

A: "You validate it once and then it is good for the 24/72 hours on all public transport whether metro, bus or tram."
