Your hotel is in the centre of Prague and therefore there are lots of bars etc. The downside of this is that the prices are a lot higher than if you get out of town into the suburbs. You will soon see that the public transport system in Prague is amazing with trams everywhere and getting about is easy , plus there is the metro for longer journeys across the city.I have been lots of times and in fact will be there for 4 nights at the end of November. My advice is get on a tram and get out of the centre and you will find plenty of good bars and places to eat at much less cost then in the centre no matter where you end up. Then just get the same number tram back and you cant get lost. Weve found lots of great places by doing that. You dont say how long you are are staying but buy a transport ticket at the airport at the desk in the arrivals hall. A 72 hour 1 costs 330 czech koruna and is valid for 72 hours from when you first validate it in the machine on the bus or tram. They are valid on all buses, trams ,and the metro. An absolute bargain. To get to your hotel take the 119 bus from outside arrivals (every 10 mins)and validate your ticket, and get off at the terminus (Dejvicka metro station. Green line.)This takes 20 mins. From there take the metro into the city (they only go 1 way from there)for 4 stops and get off at Mustek. Here you change onto the Yellow line heading in the direction Cerny Most for 2 stops and get off at Florenc. You hotel is just across the road. This may sound complicated but it isnt and will take 45 mins altogether. You will then have the use of your transport ticket until it expires. You can also buy 1 day and 7 day tickets. If you take a taxi or minibus it may be faster but much more expensive and then you will still need a ticket for the public transport. If you send me your email address to my VT address i'll email you a good map of the metro system. I cant do it from here because its not much good for attachments. Have a look at the Prague pages at www.myczechrepublic.com Sorry I don't know about jazz clubs but ask at the hotel.

Travel Tips for Prague

Looking at the map we can find...

by gm.soleblu

Looking at the map we can find that Prague is really a focal point, heart and centre of the continent. However, Prague is not only a geographical heart of Europe, but also a place where for centuries different nations were mixing, influencing each other. Those who walk through Prague walk trough the history of Europe and its cultural streams, follow the traces of reformers, artists, rulers, army leaders, who influenced this continent as far as ideas, art and politics re concerned. This heart of Europe was facing a heart attack for last four decades - now fresh cultural blood is flowing to it.The heart of Europe starts pulsing, the old charm of one of the most memorable cities is now enhanced by fresh charm. Prague, the city of dreams...this is one of the attributes given to Prague, one og the names given to this city celebrated by poets for centouries an praised by visitors...
It is said that one finds what one dreamt about only in dreams and in Prague.
For more than one thousand and one hundred years visitors to Prague have been trying to give Prague a suitable name:stone Prague, golden Prague, magic Prague, hundred-spired Prague, Prague, mother of all cities (Praga Mater Urbium)...The myth from the time out of mind tells about Princess Libuse, who in her prophecy saw a big city whose fame would touch the stars. Let us mention several names given to Prague in the course of its history. Each of these attributes will highlight one of its attractive features.

The Original Pilsner

by sharih

Pilsner Urquell is touted as the original pilsner, but there are many other varieties to try. One brand that seems to be of a bit better quality is Gambrinus. Pilsner Urquell is available everywhere, even McDonald's , but you'll find the others in most pubs and on the streets. Something else of note: the original Budweiser was started in Czech Republic, but the Americans stole the name. The "real" Budweiser is a bit darker and better in my opinion. And don't forget, it's legal to walk on the streets with alcoholic beverages.

Pilsn

This town is famous for its beer and has a nice town square with beer tent in the middle. We stopped here for a rest at approx 9.30am and many of the locals were already well on their way to oblivion. The square also has a very interesting Plague monument dating back several centuaries.

St Martin's Rotunda

by M0B1US

Built at the end of the 11th century and restored 1878, this is the oldest of three well preserved Romanesque Rotundas in Prague that all date from the 11th and 12th centuries.

All are incredibly small churches with naves measuring a mere 6m across.

Situated at the beginning of K Rotunde and near the Leopold Gate, St Martin's is the oldest intact structure at Vysehrad.

St Wencenslas built a similar rotunda on the site of the cathedral of St Vitus before it made way for larger places of worship.

The best example of Romanesque church architecture is St George's, also in Prague Castle.
