Dining outside Old Town
There are nice little restaurants also outside the Old Town and other tourist trap areas. Try for example the area north from the centre (Letná or Praha 7 area). Prices are totally different than in the centre!

Do I need Koruna or Euro for restaurants/shops etc in Prague? Thanks : )
Hi!
Almost everywhere you can pay with Euro so don´t worry. Also there are many ATM´s where u can get the local currency from your account.
Koruna: euro is not (yet, it is supposed to be in 2010) official currency which means any shop or restaurant that takes it will apply its own exchange rate. So if you are buying euros in the first place, with a different currency, you risk losing out twice on the exchange rate.
any euros you use will be exchanged gleefully by assorted merchants, hotels, and restaurants with an exchange rate unfavorable to you. it adds up.
Use koruna.
As mentioned above, it is possible pay using euros - but it will be 5-8 % more expensive than changing EUR to CZK and paying using CZK. And if you pay with EUR, change will be given in CZK using the same unfavorable rate, so you loose twice.
we have koruna.
Some places will accept Euro but not a good idea for reasons outlined above. Many places will NOT accept Euro, specially outside tourist areas. And Czechs are NOT going to adopt Euro in 2010 - that is a totally incorrect info.

Charles Bridge is the oldest bridge in Prague - started in 1357 by Master Otto and completed by Petr Parler, although its statues date mainy from the 18th century.
It links the Old Town with the Lesser Town quarter across the river. Its a magnet for street traders and tourist tack - always crowded so try to be here in the early morning or late afternoon when daytrippers have gone.
A gothic tower - the Old Town Bridge Tower -marks the entrance to the bridge on the Old Town side. Climb this and you get the best bird's-eye view of Charles Bridge, Vltava River, Prague Castle and Old Town.

The Czech Language is very complicated and hard to learn.
After several weeks you might understand a few words maybe, when you see them again and again, like otevreno (open)...
Plenty of people will understand Russian as well, but mostly it reminds them of hard times of Communisme...
Many will understand English or German, especially when they work in tourist industry.
Most restaurants will have English or German menues !
My pic is an old sign at the trainstation, where inscriptions in Czech,Russian and German made sense.
Normally even in many museums, everything is written in Czech ONLY - but papers with translations into various languages will be offered to tourists.
Kutna Hora is about an hour from Prague on a fast train - make sure you get on the right train! You can get a ticket through to Kutna Hora - you will need to change trains near Sedlic and get on a small "toy" train like a tram up to KH.
We did'nt have enough time here due to it being very cold, snowing and having a complaining family but I thought it a wonderful place. The cathedral is not to be missed - it has several artifacts over 700 years old and some of the original early medieval artwork to the walls and ceilings intact. This is rare glimpse into ancient rural life - the scenes are local to the area of artisans and local people - I found it fascinating.
Many movies, music videos or advertisements are made on locations in Prague.
Each week somewhere in the city movie crew is working. Sometimes it is in tourist frequented locations or even some central streets are closed.
Probably it is not likely that you will see A. Jolie or S. Connery working, but can still can have a peek into the "kitchen" of movie making.

Q: Prague public transportation "Hello VT; I'm so confused how the 1 day or 3 days pass works. It says that you have to validate the pass/ticket before..."
A: "You validate it once and then it is good for the 24/72 hours on all public transport whether metro, bus or tram."
