  • nice hotel for a short stay

Very good price and close to the metro station. Breakfast was fine, nothing special but for such price - really fine. The area close to the hotel is not interesting at all and there aren't many shops but it's a good place for someone who wants to come back to the hotel only for a sleep. Staff was very nice and friendly.

is the German railway site which will give you train times, details and fares in English.

You will also be able to book your tickets online for some trains, if you wish ( sometimes do good advance fares on some routes).

For buses, check out the Studentagency site (you don't have to be a student):

One-way fare is 64 euro.

also run buses Koln to Prague. One-way fare is from 54 euro.

If you book far enough ahead, and there is availability, you can go on the train for 39 euro.

Which is a bargain, imo.

i dont like to fly :( bad times in my past

its cheap but i hate it

im going from leeds-koln on coach £70 return

have you a link for cheap train i think 54 euro e/w is expensive? no?

The website I gave all train fares and times.

You won't find a 'cheap' train other than on there. It is just the same as UK nationalrail (and 54 euro is less than you'd pay for a similar distance here).

But, as I noted above when I mentioned the 39 euro fare, if you look far enough in advance do sometimes have good online offers for some routes. What fare you are offered depends on when you are travelling, so try to check for your exact date (although, like all such sites, does not hold data for several months ahead).

all the treain fares are steep

found 19 euro one way on

but coming back no such luck with any coach firm :(

anymore ideas folks

Crikey! I think you are looking for something which does not exist.

Less than 19GBP is hardly a high fare for a road journey of 697km (around 433miles) (nor is under 54GBP for the train journey, if you check UK rail fares).

You could always hitch-hike, of course.

If there are 4 of you, Schönes Wochenende Ticket (SWT) could be a chance. You have to go on a Saturday or Sunday, price is 37 euro for up to 5 people going together. It is valid also on some rail lines here in CZ, eg. to Plzen from where group ticket for 4 to Prague is for about 15 euro. This makes one person single fare about 13 euro, but note you can only go on weekends, you can only use regional train (S, RB, RE, IRE, Os, Sp, R) so it'll take a lot of time and many train changes. And you also have to buy czech ticket once you arrive to the end of the zone where SWT is valid. Way back from Prague works the same, SWT is sold at Czech Railways travel agency on the side of Prague's main station for 39e.

Shoulders in the Old Town Square

by mrclay2000

The popular facade of the Storch House is one of many facades poring over the Old Town Square. The distinctive equestrian mural of St Wenceslas (the country's patron saint) is a few floors talls. The white lion (coat of arms of Bohemia) rests below the windows.

by nighthawk

The modern building close to the National Theatre is easy to spot for is all glass façades. It is a little bit of an eye sore beside the neo-renaissance styled National Theatre, however it is appropriate for the innovative multimedia performances which combine dramatic lighting effects, cinema, moveable screens, props and live actors together to create an extraordinary stage show. Mime and gesture are the language in these shows so don’t worry about knowing Czech.
Magic Lantern Theatre
Address: Praha 1, Narodni tr. 4

Sunrise on Charles Bridge

by tafurojo

This should be a MUST see activity but it doesn't seem like its really caught on. Please treat yourself to an early morning walk through Prague and to the Charles Bridge. You can beat the tourists out and take some amazing pictures with an empty bridge. Only a few photographers and lucky early birds are out there and at some points I was literally the only one on the bridge. In 2 hours this same picture would be flooded with people and vendors.
