Back door it

Prague's Castle District is the main tourist attraction in town so if you go in the middle of the day, it will generally be packed. The best times to go are very early in the morning and sunset to nighttime. Also, if you walk up the normal route from the Charles Bridge, you will be doing what 90 percent of everyone else does so expect crowds. I found a good way to visit it is to take the metro to Dejvice, enjoy that area and then walk back towards town and the Cathedral. It gives you a much different persective of the whole area, and much less crowded too.
Cash is King

Many places in Prague don't accept credit cards, and sometimes the Bankomats (ATMs) are difficult to find. Make sure you bring enough cash into restaurants in particular so you won't have any issues with paying.
Bring plenty of film!

If you come in May, it can get cool at night so bring a jacket. Also bring comfortable shoes because you will be doing lots of walking. This is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I guarantee you will be taking pictures of everything in your path. Bring plenty of film and/or a digital camera!
Nooks and Crannies

I strongly encourage you spend lots of time in Prague in order to "poke around" in paths and doorways you would otherwise hurry by on your way to the next site to see. It took us about four days before we became comfortable with this city and started really observing the life around us.
Handles on the Golden Gate, St Vitus Cathedral

Two lions challenging each other are just another fine detail of the Golden Gate. It is unfortunate not to be able to get closer to the door, but it is still interesting to have a look at such fine art.
