Godd Value, Some problems

From previous reports, we were expecting the worst. The hotel was indeed a transit camp for up to 10 coaches of noisy teenagers from many countries. Most nights they were singing, banging & generally enjoying themselves – nothing scary, but noisy. Sadly, most all of them were also smokers. The hotel is a dated and worn concrete tower in a quiet dreary neighbourhood.

Now the good side, the hotel staff were polite and helpful, and they did speak enough English to sort out minor problems. The rooms are basic, but spacious and clean (even passed an under the bed check). There was plenty of hot water for the shower and hand & bath towels are provided.

The breakfast buffet (7.00 -10 am) is fine, and includes cereal, bread rolls, sliced bread, sliced meats, boiled eggs, plain yoghurt, coffee, tea and dilute orange juice. Just be careful about timing. One morning we hit the rush when several coach loads of Russian kids were polishing off breakfast at the same time – that morning the staff were heroic in trying to keep it flowing. We decided it was best to wait until 9.00am in future.

Although it is out in the suburbs, getting to the Old Town only takes ~ 30 mins. Ladvi Metro station is at the end of the Red line (C). This is a 15 minute walk if you turn right out of the hotel then right again through the underpass beneath the highway. Cut through the schools and apartment blocks until you reach the next highway then turn left and you will soon see the red building, Ladvi station.

But the easiest route is to turn left out of the hotel and up the hill towards Hotel Duo and the Liberecka bus stop. Cross over the road to the bus stop (if you look to your right you will see the new metro extension that is near completion – this will extend the line from Ladvi, right to your doorstep). At the moment you can catch buses 134, 177, 187 to Ladvi station. At Ladvi station, the lady (spoke English) in the tabac at the top of the stairs will sell you a 3 day ‘Metro Pass Touristicka’ for 330 Kr. It gives you unlimited use of buses, trams, metro and the funicular railway. Public transport works great – trains are every 4 mins or closer in peak hours. Just stamp your ticket once in the yellow punch machines at the Metro barrier and you can forget about transport worries.

If you stay cool and can live with high spirited kids, this hotel is good value.

Regular nice hotel

I stayed in Hotel Luna during a class trip true Prague. It was a basic hotel with no extra's. Just a bed and breakfast. But I enjoyed staying there.

Unique Quality: Nice rooms

Hotel Luna

Unique Quality: Luna is a nice and decent hotel in residential area of Prague but don't expect luxury. The hotel offers clean two and three bed rooms, some with own bathrooms and some with 2 rooms sharing a bathroom. There's also a breakfast service. For us it was nice, since we were travelling as a couple, but if you're on your own and would like to meet more people it's perhaps also good to check out one of youth hostels around the city.

Q: Prague public transportation "Hello VT; I'm so confused how the 1 day or 3 days pass works. It says that you have to validate the pass/ticket before..."

A: "You validate it once and then it is good for the 24/72 hours on all public transport whether metro, bus or tram."
