The Hotel Meran adjoins the Hotel Evropa in Wenceslas Square. This is a narrow Hotel that really looks to be squeezed into the site. It was built between 1895 - 1906 by the Hajek family. After the death of Mr. Hajek in 1937, the hotel was passed into the hands of his son and daughter who were only aged 2 & 3 years old!
During WWII, the Nazi's took possession of the Hotel, renaming it the Luna Hotel. After the war, it was returned to the Hajek family and back to its original name. It was at this time, sister Marie sold her half to her brother Julius.
During the communist time, the Hotel fell into disrepair, since then it has been beautifully restored to its original Art Nouveau style.
This hotel is situated on Wenceslas Square halfway along next to the hotel Europa, the Meran is a narrow building , which is pointed out to tourists has a architectural sight. Built by the Hajek family in 1895, but during the Nazi occupation became German property, it is now owned by Julius Hajek. The hotel is clean and comfortable , breakfast was good standard,i paid 1400 Kc [£49 ] Oct 2011 for single room and breakfast , which i thought was good value for an hotel in Prague centre. Handy for rail station or cental sites, there are 2 metro station nearby. Would use again.
Directions: main rail station [ Hlavni Nadrazi ] leave front turn left for 200m , turn right into Wenceslas square then 200m on right is the hotel. Easy walk with luggage.
Hotel Meran is a rather small hotel, directely on Wentzels Square, and the next building to Hotel Europa.
The entrance is a bit hidden by Hotel Europa, and ONLY when having a look at the fassade, you will realize, that Hotel Meran is seperate.
Unique Quality: In my opinion the fassade is even more beautiful than the one of Hotel Europa, so maybe you watch out for it, when you are there.
