Hotel quailty at hostel price

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on August 4, 2009

I didn't really expect too much, since I have passed this grey soviet-style building block on my previous visit to Prague.
But it was a surprise that this hotel was so good. In the end of July 09 a real bargain: triple with breakfast for only 41 euro/night. We had a minisuite with two bedrooms, and separate wc and shower. Simple but functional and renovated rooms on 5th floor. Tv in both rooms, towels and soap provided. Staff at reception desk very helpful and nice. The breakfast room looked a bit soviet-scary, but buffet was ok with boiled eggs and watermelon slices. There is a swimming pool in the adjacent sports center, costs extra 100 CZK/person., not really worth it.
Location also good. Tram nr 9 stops just outside, and take only 10 minutes to Vaclav square. Or walk 5 minutes to metro at Flora shopping center. The nearby Zizkov district (around the tv tower) has several small non-touristic eateries, where you can fill up better and cheaper than in the old town.
Overall: Very good value for the money.

Directions: Zizkov neighbourhood (Prague 3)

Not the best place to stay in Prague

Terrible (1.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on August 23, 2006

This hotel is very remiscent of the communist era. It's old and dirty with very unfashionable decor and the rooms are more like dorms than hotel rooms. Our room was supposed to have a private bathroom, however, after checking in we found out that it was actually linked to another room. We also noticed charter groups arriving by the busload. This hotel is also away from the city centre which could be a disadvantage, though it is not far from the zizkov district.

Unique Quality: pool
restaurant/bar
no view

Directions: Flora Subway station

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)

Looks pretty ghetto outside, then the reception is quite swanky but the rooms are still rich in soviet-era minimalist style and function. Close but not walking distance to old town centre, trams do the job.

Unique Quality: Didn't try much except the bar (they forgot to add alcohol to our cocktails) and the breakfast (unspectacular but plenty to scran).

Directions: Get the 5, 9 or 26 tram, east of Hladni Ndravi (main rail station).

Great Value 3-star hotel

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)

For 33 EUR/38USD per night(double room) in August, this hotel gives really good value. The room is simple but quite big! Shower and toilet are in an adjoing hall, but all in the same room.

Some hostels are charging even more than this price.

Unique Quality: The tram stops right in front of the hotel, and the metro station FLORA is about 5-10min walk away. This is not exactly city centre location, but I appreciate its quiet surroundings and good service;)

Imagine the money you save by taking a train back on Line C from city centre: only 8 Czech crowns.

Directions: Take tram from Main train station: 3rd stop
