Accomodation in Prague
Introduction from Lonely Planet, Thorn Tree, East and Central Europe, of 14 August 2001.
Repeated questions have been asked about accommodation in Prague. So I have compiled a list of notes by other people for the benefit of everyone.
Note from Prague in your Pocket, August 2001. Copyright. http://www.inyourpocket.com/Czech/Prague_hotels2. You can sleep cheap in Prague, but normally you can expect to share a room. Many hostels list car shares for heading to other European capitals. If you are prepared to pay a little more than a few hundred crowns there are plenty of small hotels and pensions. The Czechs have been quick to learn that there is money to be paid by opening a pension, slow to realise that means people come to stay in it.
When the two sources give different costs I copy both. In this list "LP" means an item has come from Lonely Planet: others are from In Your Pocket. Entries run from cheapest to most expensive.

When I was in Prague in 1999, I stayed at Hostel Jednota, on Opletalova 38, some 150 meters north of Praha Hlavni Nadrazi railway station. I paid approx 17 USD for a room with two beds for 2 people in the room per night. Breakfast was included. The toilet and the showers were shared with the rest of the floor. [Credit Card accepted] [Conference facilities] [Car parking] [Image]. The Evropa is the hotel that everyone gasps at... from the outside. The 1905 art nouveau façade (actually leaning towards art deco) is the most beautiful on the square and the café is lovely. However, the rooms (except for the Louis 16th-style suites) are distinctively scruffy-looking, some downright shabby with 1960s brown furniture and creaky floors. The cheaper rooms share facilities in the corridor and have only a washbasin in the room. The absence of differentiated prices per season indicate old-style management.
I stayed in a Prague hostel called Alia which was quite decent. Vladimirova 8, 140 00 Prague 4, Czech Republic. Tel: (+42) 02/692 49 40 Fax: (+42) 02/692 49 45 (24hrs service). November 2001. I stayed in a Prague Hostel called ALIA which was quite
decent. Connections to the centre by tram c. 10 mins.
My wife and I stayed in Prague in January of 2000. We stayed at the Hotel Olsanka: we found it on Hotels in Czech Republic. The accomodations were sparse, having a basic private bath and drab interior, but the price was right--35 (u.s. dollars) a night. The breakfast was good and the tram was located right outside the hotel, it takes you to the center of the city. Good Luck, Brian and Becca http://www.hotels-of-prague.com/Olsanka/. Single room 46 US dollars or 1800 crowns. METRO Flora. LP
Praha 1, Tesnov 5 (METRO Florenc), tel. (+420-2) 24 80 56 00, fax (+420-2) 24 80 56 08, firstname.lastname@example.org. 8 rooms (Single 1,900 crowns , doubles 2,300 crowns). A friendly little pension on the fifth floor of a central office building. Rooms are large; two rooms even have terraces overlooking the towers of the old town and the Hilton. Lower prices are single occupancy rates. Breakfast included.
Hotel Ibis ***
I stayed in the Hotel Ibis in the city center in Feb. and it was pretty reasonable although I cannot remember the price. At Saldova 54, Praha 8-Karlin, it is right up the the hill from Wenceslas Square and METRO Krizikova station is less than a block away. Three star hotel. Single without breakfast 2290 crowns. http://www.hotelsprague.cz/ibis_e.htm/. LP
Praha 1, Mezibranská 15 (METRO Muzeum), tel. (+420-2) 96 32 51 86, fax (+420-2) 96 32 51 88, email@example.com, www.pension.museum.cz. 9 rooms (3 doubles 2,450 crowns, 6 suites 3,270
crowns). Don't be put off by the fact this is directly on the busiest road in Prague. This place is divine and all the rooms are in a courtyard behind the building. This designer B&B was a nursery school, now it's a grown-up, exclusive little secret, opened in late 2000 and already 80% booked up. Trilingual staff.
Praha 1, Kremencova 13 (METRO Národní trída), tel. (+420-2) 24 91 32 86, fax (+420-2) 24 91 05 74, firstname.lastname@example.org. 8 rooms (singles 2,940 crowns, 6 doubles 3,940 crowns, 2 apartments 3,940 - 4,940 crowns, extra bed 500 Crowns, Next door to the U Fleku brewery, this comfortable pension is friendly, warm and for a pension, well-designed. A cheaper option is an apartment for 4,340 crowns. French bistro on site.
Worth a Try - On arrival at railway station. there is official tourism booking booth or lots of people milling about wanting to rent rooms privately. never had any problems. Best. The most romantic I had (but was on
own unfortunately) was lovely bedsit about 1 block from castle, on hill looking down over river. fab & very cheap for a week. i got it from tourist booth at train station. About 4 yrs ago now but similar should still be available. Failing this try Vesta or Ave at the main station. Cheap apartments, usually in nice locations near or in the historic Stare Mesto. They are your best value at between 300-400 crowns per bed in 2-3 bed apartments. Try to stay in Stare Mesto or if possible in Mala Strana which is directly across the river from the historic Stare Mesto and is less hectic. Most importantly, before accepting any offer at the train station, ask to be shown on the city map where the apartment is and dont settle for anything outside the historic city centre. Also, have a good look at the place before handing over the money, on one of my trips I was dismayed to find that I had no hot water in my shower. Overall, most places offer great value and location. Enjoy your stay, Prague is the most enchanting city in Europe.
Praha 2, Wilsonova 8 (METRO Hlavní nadrazí), tel. (+420-2) 24 22 59 65, email@example.com, www.touristguide.cz. Open 08:00 - 16:00.

Praha 2, Wilsonova 8 (METRO Hlavní nadrazí), tel. (+420-2) 24 61 71 18. Open 06:00 - 22:00. (Singles 1,160 - 1,910 crowns, doubles 1,520 - 2,500 crowns, triples 1,780 - 2,930 crowns). Accommodation from US$8 at five different offices in the train station. Make sure to specify if you would like to be alone with your travelling companions as some rooms have up to seven beds.
