Habiscus Tea
by WeeScotishLassie
I experienced this in Prague, but it can happen anywhere. Note to all; do not try to put milk in your Habiscus tea. It'll just dissapoint you. Oddly enough, this was one of those small, classic events that I will never forget. Not my best memory... just a funny one!
Charles Bridge
by littlesam1
This is one of my favorite photographs I took from the Charles Bridge. It was not of the bridge or the tourists or the vendors. It is a shot just off of the bridge with a lone sculpture overlooking the water front. Its almost as if the statue has turned its back to the crowds to ignore them and just enjoy the view of the river. Thats my best Charles Bridge tip for you. Turn your back from the crowds and the vendors. Forget the tourists rubbing the statues for good luck. And just look out on the river and let yourself escape to another time and another place.
Easter eggstravaganza
by Flamegirl
I went to Prague shortly before Easter, and both the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square were filled with Easter markets; hand-painted eggs, gingerbread, and the usual tourist stuff (pictures, jewellery etc).
A rather pretty Easter custom is to decorate everything with brightly coloured tissue paper. It's everywhere; in the trees, in the plant pots... you name it!
Some food I tried in the market and could recommend: trdlo (bread flattened around a metal rolling pin then rotated over a fire, then dipped in a sugar/nut mix - an edible bracelet!) and caramelised nuts (or caramelised sunflower seeds which I got... very tasty!)
Astronomical Statue
by travelfrosch
Not far from Strahov Monastery, you can enjoy a statue commemorating two of history's greatest astronomers: Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler. Sara comes from a family of astronomers, so it was especially meaningful for her. Fun as the astronomical clock is downtown, it's quite satisfying to see tributes to astronomy like this.
To find the statue, take Take Tram 22 or 23 to Pohořelec. Statue will be across the street on the right (if coming from downhill).
Daytrip to Karlštejn Castle
by Krumlovgirl
This medieval castle was built in 1348 - 1368 by the King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV, as a place for safekeeping the coronation jewels. The heart of the castle is the Chapel of the Holy Rood (or Holy Cross), and features a famous gallery of 127 panel paintings by the Master Theodoricus. Reservations for touring the Chapel must be made ahead of time.
Distance: approx. 21 miles (half-day trip)
