Hi all i would like to put to you..what is the best pub to go at xmas time, i am going to prague 13th - 16th dec with my girlfriend staying at residence agnes. I want to find a nice cosy pub with a real fire. candles and a good xmas feeling...i.e no loud music and carols playing in the back ground type of thing...?
Anyone out there got any ideas ?
Thanks in advance ..Warren
Don't know whether they will suit you but have a look at,
The Klasterni Pivovar, a nice welcoming brewpub in the castle area or
The U Ceskych Panu restaurant a cellar restaurant a few minutes from Wenceslas Square.
There are tips for both on my Prague page where you can find links to their websites.
Have a good trip
One thing I have noticed being there during Christmas is that: 1. pubs don't play Christmas carols, if they play music at all, and 2. pubs generally don't "decorate" as the Czechs aren't so big on decorations until the very last days before Christmas (meaning 21st on), so the xmas feeling may be hard to find in a pub as opposed to a restaurant.
as for the fireplace, I only know of one pub that comes to mind with a fireplace. It is called u krbu. A local slovakian pub in vinohrady. see my tip on it if you are interested. It is cozy in its own way, but may not be what you are looking for. Just down the block from it, though, is Mozaika, whcih is a cozy restaurant I highly recommend, and I also have a tip on that.
Just for drinks though, I would also recommend u Sudu on Vodickova, a cavernous wine bar that bases most of its lighting on candles. Lots of seperated rooms for privacy and very cozy atmosphere, but again, the Christmas feeling may not enter that place!:)
Sorry I can't be too much help, but have fun anyways!
