Passport checking
by adamparhi
Hi,
When I get to Prague from Berlin (via bus or train), is there any passport checking?
Thanks,
Adam
Re: Passport checking

Officially not, but on the other hand you can be stopped anywhere on the territory of Germany or Czech Republic and asked to show the passport.
Do not know about the buses, but presume passports are not checked.
On the trains German police enters the trains close to the border then while train is moving to the other stop walk and ask for a passports of some passengers. They check some data using special hand held terminals. They select just one or two (or none) passengers from each carriage. Can not comment on the criteria of selection - have no idea....
The same is when going in the opposite direction - Czechs do not bother, but German police is "scanning" the train...

I was sleepy in the overnight train (I think Poland to Prague) and they knocked about 4 times just to look at my passport...and also, they did stamp it twice during the night --- they were unifromed and so I assume they were really officials...but I heard stories, they might be scammers as well (wanting to get something from a sleepy passenger - backpack?)...So, I sleep with all my things tucked away well...Have fun and good luck, Norman :)

In all my travels in Schengen countries I was never stopped for passport check no matter where or how I travelled, train, car or airports, so if they do check anything, it is all random. My colleague just drove a car all the way from Finland to Czech Rep. via 5 countries and he was not checked even once.

Perhaps it is just the luck of the draw. We were checked on the train going from Munich to Prague by what I assumed were Czech officials (in uniform) who came on board just near the border. They too had the electronic gadget to check with and they checked everyone in my carriage at least.

When did you travel from Munich? If that was before 2008 it is not valid anymore as Czech was not yet member in Schengen. Today things are different, its about 12 months since they remove all border check and any experience before that is not relevant anymore.

(photo:Tyn Church on the Staromestská Námesti)DRINK BEER!Try as much kind as you can.Drink Pilsner Urquell,Budvar,Staropramen,Radegast,Branik,Kozel etc. All of them are very good! If you ask me Velkopopovycky Kozel is the best. Just walk in the streets and if you see a pub, restaurant etc. go in for a drink. Say:Jedno/Dva/Tri/Stiry pivo(a) prosim! Then follow your walk. You'll have a perfect day.I promise you! My second trip to Prague was one of my best travel. It was a very spontaneaus trip when everything succeeded! We slept in a tent in the middle of the city (in a park of Mala Straná by the Újezd),we drank lot of beers and walked a lot.I haven't had such a good time (except in Valencia) since then.

While many associate beer with Germany, the Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world....and they are proud of it. Don't be afraid to sample many of the fine locals beers anytime of day. No one will look twice at you if you wash down your eggs with a tall cold one!!!!!
Garbage bins
by gusgom
Like in all other places of the world, bins are full of garbage. If you look careful at the picture, you can see how many bottles of alcohol have been consumed, they are all over the ground, because they don't fit inside the bins.
