U Fleku atmosphere during day....

by monicarc

just wondering if U Fleku is "fun", has octoberfest type of atmosphere/live music during the day--we will be travelling with (then 7 month old) baby and will be there during the day time--want my husband to get full experience. thanks.

U Fleku is very authentic architecturally, big. I ate in the Hop Garden in the evening around 9 PM, things were winding down. They have accordian music. I would say it's a good choice. The waiters can be a tad surly.

I thought it was totally overated and expensive. There are lots of bars in and around Prague centre that ive been to that are much better at a much cheaper cost. The only thing different is the "oompah band" music. That and waiter service are very much charged for.

I would just it fun? Yes. Does it have a Oktoberfest Atmosphere? Yes. Is it overpriced? Probably by Prague standards. Certainly not expensive by US standards. Is it a tourist trap? Sort of. Big and attracts a lot of tourists.

I still think it was worth a visit, based on what you are looking for.

U Fleku is a hoot. Sure you can find a place to drink for half the price, but it is still very inexpensive by N.A. standards and great beer and food. The band will play all night at your table as long as you keep throwing money in the tuba. There is a smoking and non-smoking side as well. Great beer and shots and I like how the waiters keep track of your tab. People crank about unfriendly wait staff but I didn't find that at all. No matter where in the world you go if you are going to act like a tool as a customer, you are probably going to be treated as such by the staff.

Travel Tips for Prague

Charles Bridge (Karlov Most)

by piersend

Charles Bridge is fantastic, you will find several people along the lenght of the bridge selling gifts, trinkets and even portraits, there's quite a good Jazz band too. You can for a small fee climb up to the top of the towers at either end of Charles Bridge, its worth it for the view.

Live Music

by Imbi

The level of tourism here is much higher than anywhere else we've been in Eastern Europe.
Enjoy the live music at Charles Bridge; orchestra playing some folk music and public agathered around them and admiring them.
I really liked few of the Folk songs even though i did not understand a single word.

Castle Guard

by Cristian_Uluru

Under the titaniums in struggle there are the castele Guards. Their aspect is less austere than the famous English Guard and often they smile. Their uniforms are been created by the costume designer of the film Amadeus. The changing of the guard has actually happened every time since 5 to the 23.

Kampa, called also the "Devil's Stream" and the "Little Venice", it's a very cute area between Charles Bridge and Mala Strana. Here are almost all the embassy of Prague from Finland to Japan, so think how well kept is this area.
Kampa square has a lot of very nice shops and pubs and it's great in the late afternoon after a walk on the castle.
One of the main spots here is the wheel mill on a side channel of the Vltava.
On the walls of some houses you can see the signs of the flood of the Vltava in 2002... scaring!!!

Church of St's Peter and Paul

by bpwillet

This church has undergone many different architectural variations. It was finished in a Neo-Gothic style in the late 1800's by Josef Mocker. The interior is visited by a 20KCZ donation and open minded idea of art nouveau, a lot of which exists in the artistry.

It is open from 9-5 daily with a break between noon and 1pm.
