Check out the transportation tip on my Prague page which gives step-by-step instructions.

good grief, if you can stay in the Mandarin Oriental, surely you can spring for the shared Cedaz van and not shlep your suitcases on a subway.

Hi Public transport is very efficient in Prague, tram, bus and metro. We purchase a transport card, there are 3 day and 7 day passes which are very cheap. We used this pass to also depart the city, metro and then the 119 airport bus. In 7 days we never used a taxi.

Good Luck,
Mike

Travel Tips for Prague

The philosopher´s stone

by Bjorgvin

The Golden Lane (Zlata Ulicka) is small lane near the Prague Castle, famous for its miniature buildings originally built for soldiers and archers in the reign of Rudolf II (Holy Roman emperor 1576?1612). Later the street was the home of craftsmen, artists and alchemists. Its name is derived from the goldsmiths and alchemists known for activities related to the occult sciences. Franz Kafka lived in no. 22 for a while in 1917. Today artists sell souvenirs and crafts in the little houses. A couple of cafes are along the way.

"Turkish Coffee" (Turka)

by r13

Be warned, that in Czech Republic "Turkish Coffee" (Turka) means something different than in other countries!

"Turkish Coffee" in Czech caffes/restaurants is prepared as follows:
1. Take a cup (glass).
2. Put a spoonful of ground coffee into a cup.
3. Pour boiling water.
4. Serve.

Consume when cooled down enough (don't forget to filter trough your teeth) ........

To Bring!

by kentishgirl

A bag which fits over the front of you is handy so that you can keep an eye on your valuables when in crowds. Comfy shoes, it rained in June a little but was too warm for a raincoat so we used umberellas. Lip Balm....the sun is strong even when its raining! Just bring tons of film, there is so much beauty to capture here.

Prague Venice

I came across this amazing part of the Vlatva river just below Charles Bridge, unfortunately it was iced over when I was there, but in the summer months you may hop onto a little boat that seats around 5-8 people which cruises around the Certovka

Fresh Fruit.

by anglosaxon

Fresh Fruit. Some places to get the freshest fruit are 1) Fruits of France shop in Jindrisska (expensive). 2) The fruit market behind Narodni metro station. 3) The fruit market and tourist gift market in Havelska (between Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square). The markets have water fountains nearby to wash the fruit before you eat it.
