HUGE ROOM

Nice hotel with huge rooms. Well, my room was actually two rooms in one. We had one room with a king size bed and there was another one with two single beds that we didn't use. I loved breakfast. Lots of food and delicious sweets.
The hotel is far away from the city centre (as most hotels in Prague) but there's an underground station nearby.

Cheap and quite nice:)

I stayed in this hotel one week during NY hollidays in 2003-2004.It was quite nice place to stay.Room for two persons rather big, actually when we lived there , our apatment had 2 rooms, but we used just one.No TV, at least in our room, but u don't need it, since the all day u r in the city:)
I can't say that service was great...but...but, i was satisfied.
So....what i can say when u travell on a budget ,your ambitions is not that high, u don't need 5star hotel with including servant for your room :)

Unique Quality: The main characteristics for me is the price and location. It's far away from the center,BUT there a metro station just 5 minutes on foot from the hotel.Very convinient!

More about Opatov Hotel Prague

Pruhonice Park.

by anglosaxon

Pruhonice Park. Located about 3km from Opatov Metro station. Reachable by bus or bike from Opatov. Huge formerly private estate now open to the public. Costs a ridiculous 50 pence to get into this 10 square km piece of landscaped garden. Ideal place for picnics and bike rides. Has a rose garden at the entry and inside is filled with giant rhodedendrons of all colours flowering in spring/summer. Three hotels in town are all 3* The Tulipan, The Park Hotel and The Magnolia. Well worth a day in the Park. The restaurant in the Magnolia Hotel serves a good selection of Czech Food and is the best of the three. If you are driving, the car park attached to the park is 10kc per hour and if it gets full they open another area. The parking area by the Magnolia Hotel is half 'Reserve' and half 'meter'. The meter section is Monday to Sunday. (Best to leave your car in the car park). The website lists public transport options i.e. bus routee. To get the timetables, click here and scroll down to the section about how to get "stop leaflets", bus and tram timetables etc

Pruhonice

Here is the place where I work. It is a botanical garden and park around small, but lovely castle. Unfortunately the castle is occupied by Insitute of Botany, so there are visits inside available only in few rooms, but the gardens are worth to visit.
The complex was designed by Arnost Emanuel Silva-Tarouca in the end of 19. century, but the history of Pruhonice starts in 11. century. When Silva-Tarouca came to Pruhonice, he begun rebuilding the castle to corresponding with his imagination of garden. The area is 250 ha and contains a lot of domestic or introduced plants. The main are Rhododendron, Tulip, Hemerocallis, Iris or Paeonia.
Another garden over here is Dendrology garden. Also worth to visit during spring for its Rhododendron's collection.

How to get there: Metro OPATOV station and then bus 363 or 385.

Overnight parking in Prague

by kjeldsenk

Hi,
I will be driving to prague in about a week. I unfortunately need the car as it is in the middle of a 3 wk trip. But I do not want to drive into the city (even though I am sleeping in Old Town). Does anyone know if there is safe, secure overnight parking on the other side of the river for less money? Can I stay overnight in the Park and Rides? And if so are they secure? Please help, thank you.
Kirstin

Hello,
of course, you can park your car on the streets, usually nothing happens. It depens, you can also have a bad luck. I suggest you to park your car in a parking place and pay for one night. For example there is one in Opatov, it is not expensive at all. Then you can get to the center by metro.

Parking on the street is a problem in Old city. Mainly because most of the space is reserved for locals (so called "blue zone"). You can find general info and suggested parkings addresses here:
http://www.marys.cz/prague_parking/

Maps (as PDF files) of the parking zones are linked from here:
http://magistrat.praha-mesto.cz/75711_Paid-Parking-Zones

There is one trick (I DID NOT TRY IT) which might be an reasonable option:

There are P+R parkings next to several metro stations on the city outskirts. Theoreticaly you are supposed to park just till the end of the day (midnight) for 10 CZK. But if you "brake the rules" and leave car overnight you will pay penalty of 100 CZK. Which would make total price of parking 110-120 CZK (depending if the second day is charged).
Info on P+R parking is here:
http://www.dpp.cz/en/p-r-facilities/

A: "You validate it once and then it is good for the 24/72 hours on all public transport whether metro, bus or tram."
