Prague to Wroclaw.

by toafrica

Im going from Prague to Wroclaw and wanted some help on trains between the two. There are local trains which take about 10-12hrs and ~4 changes, but also a 1 stop 5hrs service through Dresden. Im curious about a faster way from Prague through the Czech Republic to Wroclaw and also to find out if the Dresden route is expensive. On the fares for both routes are not shown and the czech train website doesnt seem to have an english option.

Thanks in advance.

Czech Railways have an English version website:

The language option is about halfway down the page on the right. No prices for international travel.

You can find timetables for most trains in Europe on German Railways:

Just returned on 12 March. R/T train fare from Prague to Dresden was about $55; trip was under 2 hours. We also took the overnight train, with sleeping car, to Krakow ($220 US for both of us R/T). Ticket agents at the station were very helpful & printed everything out for us. One hint - Pay CLOSE attention to which station your train leaves from! Both ours left from different places.

you can try with Ryanair, via Frankfurth-Hahn (HHN). Maybe it's faster and cheaper.

Ryanair!!! maybe cheaper for the flights, but you have to add a couple of days hotels to the bill. Flights from Hahn to/from Prague are on Mondays and to/from Wroclaw Thursdays and to/from Wroclaw are on Sundays and Wednesdays.

There is a bus service between Prague and Wroclaw - one-way from CZK 390 - the trip takes 5-6 hours.{EE1D2BC9-1BA2-40F4-9276-1668D6306994}

Visit the Jewish Museum. This is located in the old Jewish quarter, a bit away from the center. It consists of several buildings and this famous cemetery. It is a very moving experience. The cemetery looks the way it does because they had to make several layers in the cemetery, because of the small area in Prague permitted to the Jews.

Old street-names written in 2 languages

by globetrott

At some places, mainly around the castle of Prague, the old street-signs of the Austrian empire have survived.

"Fünfkirchengasse" means "street with the 5 churches", and even if I have not seen 5 churches there any more, at least the sign - not far from Waldenstein castle - has survived 2 Worldwars and some years of communisme.

Bowling Swing

by barbipez

This cool bowling ally is a DUMP! but fun b/c it's a dump in an organized sorta way. :o)

the pins are picked up and reset by strings (a string is permanently attached to the pin) so, after your first bowl, you may have a fanthom or ghost pin hanging from above while you go for your second bowl. but it keeps accurate scores.

then - they dont rent out shoes - you use whatever shoes you're wearing or you can go in stockings/socks. quite a shock because you never realized how important those silly bowling shoes are until you dont have them!

the lanes are CRAZY! some are a little off, so your ball can take an unexpected turn on you,but they aren't horrible. they're Fun.

you dont have as much room for your approach, so you must adapt, but it's cool.

it's on two levels - the top level supposedly has a disco ball.

add in some drinks, a few good friends, easy laughter and you'll have a great time.

Hrad Karlstejn

by ettenaj

Above the little wine-producing town of Karlstejn, rears Karlstejn Castle, the most celebrated of the Bohemian castles. 18 miles SW of Prague. The castle lies to the north at the top of a limestone cliff 1047 ft above sea-level and may be reached on foot from the car park just outside the village. In summer the buses operate a shuttle service. At the westernmost tip of the castle are the old domestic offices and the large Well-tower, with a 295ft deep well and large weel-wheel.
