getting to prague in december

i`m planning to spend New Year`s Eve in prague and get back perhaps on the 2nd or 3rd of January.
can you please tell me what is the cheapest route from BUCHAREST to PRAGUE? [ by train or bus...or anything :)]

In order to determine the cheapest way one needs to now the exact dates ;)
In this case you can try and search for combination of low cost flights and etc. (I guess direct Czech airlines flights are not an option here).
In case of trains everything is quite easy - you need to have three separate tickets (bought in Romania, Hungary and Slovakia respectively): Bucurest-Budapest r/t + Budapest-Bratislava r/t+ Bratislava-Praha r/t.
As far as I see they canceling the direct train Panonia #374 after the schedule change in December(now it will be running as IC only to Budapest), but still... Use Bucuresti-Budapest train, buy Budapest-Bratislava ticket there and board any train to Bratislava, do the same thing there as well (just organize it all well enough for you in accordance to schedule)...
In total: app.80euro+16euro+app.26euro
Or you can as well use instead one simple ticket bought in Romania - City star Romania-Chehia (now costs 164euro)
And about buses - you can try and use Orangeways low cost bus operator (Cluj-Budapest + Budapest-Prague, each ticket around 20 euro)
Or the last option - you can combine airplanes, buses and trains :)

Travel Tips for Prague

Radio Free Europe

by DavyJB

To the side of the National Museum is the old Czech federal parliament building which at the moment houses Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, they broadcast into the Middle East and Afghanistan and so have to have concrete walls and guards placed around the building to prevent it being attacked by terrorists. It will not be located here for much longer however as it is moving to a new purpose built building and some of the National Museum exhibits are to be moved in whilst that building undergoes renovation.

Some of the most impressive tombs and mausoleums I have ever seen, can be found in the SLAVIN CEMETERY in VYSEHRAD. At the far end of the cemetery is the Pantheon -- a huge tomb built in 1890 and is dedicated to some of the Czech Republic's most famous figures such as Dvorak and Smetana ( Smetana Hall in the Municipal House is dedicated to him ). I absolutely loved visiting this wonderful, peaceful place.

Shopping is improving here,...

Shopping is improving here, but nothing like Western standards yet. The western shops appear to very overpriced; while the Czech Shops come across as good value, they appear to lack a certain degree of quality.

Plzen - capital of beer

by Raimix

Plzen is a place, known from beer names “Pilsen”, “Pilsener”. It could be called the most famous beer brewery place in Czech land. Here is possible to try and see how the beer is made (at excursion to brewery). Anyway, city is interesting because of old town as well with Republic Square and objects around. It is about 70 km from Karlstejn and it could be reached by bus, train.

Zamek Konopiste: Ferdinand the animal lover.

by hundwalder

Archduke Ferdinand was an animal lover. Meaning to say, he loved to shoot them. He was described as an obsessive hunter. In my opinion his love of hunting was well beyond obsessive. Throughout the last 25 years of his life, he kept a journal of his hunting exploits. In the journal was a detailed description of each incident. It is estimated that he killed about a third of a million wild animals over the 25 year period. Incredible !

His continous safari ended in June, 1914, Sarajevo, Bosnia, when the hunter became the hunted. The world cannot and should not forget the real tragedy which followed.

This photo of a corner balcony taken from the inner court, shows a few of his antelope, deer, and elk trophies. The inner walls of the chateau are so crammed with hunting trophies that it is difficult to appreciate the other decor.

The chateau also contains the world's largest collection of hunting weapons from the middle ages through the 19th. century.

To get back to the subject, the balcony shown is an excellent example of Gothic architecture. This is one of the original elements of the medieval castle.

See my previous tips for getting to zamek Konopiste from Prageue.
