Arriving late at night - good food and drink options needed please!

by sunsunsun

Hi, Please can you give me some advice?

We've booked a trip to Prague, but the flight gets in late and we won't get to our hotel until midnight. We'll be very hungry (and thristy) by then - and keen to sample all that Prague has to offer! We'll be staying about 600m from the Old Town.

Do many bars/restaurants open late at night in Prague? We want to find somewhere that serves good Czech beer and tasty food at affordable (not tourist) prices. We don't eat meat or fish, but we want to eat well!

All or any help will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Yes, there are options just off the old town. Some of the bars stay open until 5 am. If they are all closed, they have a MacDonald's that is 24hrs just off of Old town near the muzeum metro station. Getting around town is a little tricky after 12 midnight because the metro shuts down. If you have to take a taxi, haggle with them!!You will be almost shocked how much money you will save. Unless money is no object.

The tourist desk at the airport won't be open, when you arrive. Anyone who works at your hotel will be able to suggest a place to eat.
Finding a vegetarian restaurant in Prague won't be too easy.Don't know about Czech vegetarian food, but I ate "Buffalo Bill's" a Tex-Mex restaurant 3 years in a row (last early, last month). Up the street from the McDonalds, which is on a street with trollys off "W" Square. All kinds of Old West memorabilia and great food. Vegetarian dishes? Of course.
As one who travels on U.S. dollars, I found Prague to very expensive.

Travel Tips for Prague

Take your time.....2

After going around Old town square, we decided to head for Charles Bridge. Not bothering with our map, but just followed the crowd, which is basically all over the place, we ended up in one old winding cobbledstone street. When we had a glimpse of ........"what on earth is that???", and like little children who just found something interesting, we increased our pace until we could clearly looked up to him. You won't missed this fellow from afar......a suprise that truly brought a smile across our face. And i'm sure will bring a smile across yours as well.

National Museum

by bugulma

In the National Museum you can know the Czech history from ancient times till nowadays. I wasn't inside and enjoyed architectural style of the museum. I recommend you to go upstairs to the entrance of the theatre and if you turn your head back, the wonderful picture will be in front of your sight.

We went on July and it was very hot about 35 degrees, so all on our luggage was summer clothe, confortable shoes because you will walk a lot. If you go on winter well take all jumper, trousers, hats, etc is very very cold.

Your digital camera with a good memory stick or normal cameral with lots of films, because you will take a lots of photos believe me. I took nearly 200 photos.

Tu cámara digital con su correspondiente tarjeta o la cámara normal y muchos carretes porque harás mogollón de fotos. Yo hice casi 200.

Take a trip up one of the Charles Bridge Towers

by Paul2001

While walking around the Charles Bridge you should take a few moments and climb up either of the two defensive towers. The cost of scaling the stairs up is just 40kc and the views from here of Prague and its many attractions are superb. Many of the photographs that I have posted on this page of the Castle and old city are from this vantage point.

Mini Eiffel Tower

by sandysmith

The Observatory Tower on Petrin Hill - the ROZHLEDNA - is another relic from the old Jubilee exhibition of 1891. Its a quater of the height of the real Effel tower in Paris and has 299 steps up a spiral staircase for the amazing views - thats when its open . It undergoing renovation work at the moment. Besides which there had been a snowfall in the night and as we were looking at it chunks of ice kept falling off it as it was thawing out. No way I was going to climb it in that state!
