Day trip from Prague
by Andrew_W_K
Hi
My daughter is going to Prague for a week in August and is looking at day trips that are easy to get to. So far she has identified Plzen and Karlovy Vary as two places she would like to see. Can anyone recommend anywhere else about an hour - two hours from Prague?
Thanks

We were there two weeks ago and took a day trip to Dresden Germany. A gorgeous two hour train ride down the Elbe river. Make sure she takes the earliest train and books the return trip when she buys the departure to insure she gets back on the same day.

Kutna Hora. There is a beautiful ancient church there.

I'd also recommend Dresden, it's a short trip, so your daughter will have a lot of time to see the city before the bus leaves back to Prague.
I also visited the Sychrov Castle. The road is quite beautiful as is the castle itself, really make you feel like you're inside history.

We visited Kutna Hora, an easy day trip, one hour on the train. A nice place to walk around, interesting buildings, the bone house etc etc.
We went to the Tourist Information centre in Prague and the lady went to her computer and printed out the train timetable for the day we visited. Very easy.
Enjoy Prague

Karlstejn Castle (about 45 minutes out of Prague). Easily reached by train.
Also, if you're interested in that sort of thing, the Terezin concentration camp (about an hour north of Prague). Easily reached by bus.

Karlovy Vary does not have all that much to offer. If she wishes to visit another large city, I recommend Brno over Plzen. The express bus will get her there quickly and inexpensive.
Travel Tips for Prague
Prague Tip

I went as a Rotary exchange student, and you collect pins and patches for your Rotary blazer. My best find the entire trip was in a box of grimy old pins in a tiny store. After much searching I found two great pins, one of which was a gold circle with a picture of the world and the hammer and sickle over Eastern Europe. It is one of my favourite souvenirs and cost me less than AUD0.02.
Torture Cell

When visiting Prague castle, don’t forget to see this torture cell. It has so many equipments to torture people in those evil old days.
I am not sure that all the equipments in the torture cell are from the old days or they are new. I dont have any doubts about cell but it seemed to me that eqipments are new.

Anybody who has read my Northfield page knows that I hail from the town of: "Cows, Colleges and Contentment" and that my favorite place to hang out and grab a pint is the Contented Cow (www.contentedcow.com). Therefore, I have an unhealthy fascination with the cows of the Prague Cow Parade. If I could have, I would have nicked one of these cows and smuggled it home for display in the "pasture" at the Contented Cow. However, these life-sized fiberglass casts were much too big to fit into my suitcase.

C - Senovazne sq. to Tyn - 1200 m walk under the historical part, exit trough historical building - physically demanding route.
D - Senovazne sq. to Slovansky Dum - most difficult with the many technical interest points, suitable for specialists.
