berlin->Prague train
by timewaster
I just bought a round trip ticket from Berlin to Prague.
When booking it, i chose Praha hl.n as my destination, but when i proceed to the payment, it changed my destination to Praha-Holesovice.
That was strange.
If I want to get to the hln (Hlvani Nadrazi) station, can I stay on this train or do i need to switch to the Prague metro to get there?

if you are on the train we took, named the hungaria by the way, from zoo into budapest via prague, it only stops at holesovice. there is a subway stop right at the train station.

Many international trains only call at Praha-Holesovice, but don't worry. Just take the Metro in to town.

Hi,
Just some few trains pass trough both Holesovice and Main railway stations. Holesovice station is used by many international trains as the only stop in Prague. Both stations are just 3 metro stops apart.
Do not worry, you can reach Main station by metro very easily. Just follow the signs to the metro station (guess total distance from the train is around 100-150m). On the way go into the Tobacconists shop to buy a ticket (18 CZK for short trip if you want to go just to Main railway station) - metro ticket machines accept only coins.
Take stairs down and board the metro train on the right (direction "Haje"). Main station is the 3rd stop, stairs take you directly into station's vestibule.
Main station is not the best point to change if you want to go to the city (hotel)!
Travel Tips for Prague
Prague Tip

This is a picture of us with these really nice Argentinian Girls we met this weekend. We found out that they were going by train that afternoon to Frankfurt, so we offered them a ride. Why not. So for the next 5 hours all six of us piled into a car built for 4 and sang James Brown songs. International relations. Ya gotta love it.
Wander around the many squares...

Wander around the many squares and streets of this city, on both sides of the Vltava River. Prague is ground zero for squares of all kinds! Here's a view of Vaclav (Wenceslas) Square in the New Town. This photo was taken in 1994 and I am positive that there are a lot more bright lights and signs now!
Touch Jan Nepomucky / Jan Nepomuk

When crossing the Charles Bridge you may see , that almost everyone of the local people will touch a certain spot of the statue of Holy Jan Nepomuk, who was killed by the king by throwing him into the Moldau / Vltava from the bridge in 1393.
Touching the statue will bring good luck...
Prague: It's Back Streets
by Intrepidduck
There is so much to see in Prague with all the world class historical sights to visit, it becomes so overwhelming at times. Do what I do when I've visited this city and just wander, you never know what you might find or end up at. It's a good way to discover without being too tied to maps and scheduals to seek certain sights read or heard about. Prague has alot to offer and sometimes it is it's little pockets of street reality which can add some magic to your life.
Scraffito an unusual decoration on buildings.

i placed this item in Off Th eBeaten Path, partly because it is not often seen on houses or buildings in Europe and doubtful if ever seen in N America.
It is not out of the way, since it is very close to the Old Town Hall, I think a little way along Karlova street towards Male Namesti or Little Square.
