Wish We Could Have Stayed for Seven Days!
by TripAdvisor Member Dave1980
This is probably the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in. Our standard room was spacious and had a huge, comfy bed; the bathroom was very clean, and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The self-serve breakfast was delicious and is served between 7 and 11. The hotel is on a busy road a stone's throw from the National Museum at the top of Wenceslas Square, a very convenient location and despite the traffic, the room was very quiet.
Two tips: the road outside is a bit of a nightmare to cross, but when the pedestrian light turns to green just go for it and walk across, and then the cars will stop for you! Be careful. Secondly, watch your bags on busy metro trains. The metro is a great way to get around quickly, and it's very cheap, but we had a wallet stolen.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and want to return.
The Good and The Not-So Good
by A TripAdvisor Member
THE GOOD
1. Very clean hotel, rooms, reception, bar etc.
2. Friendly staff
3. Nice breakfast (Hot and cold buffet)
4. Very comfy bed
5. Everything in the bedroom and bathroom fresh and clean
6. No noise in the rooms from neighbours or outside
7. Reasonable prices in the hotel bar
NOT-SO-GOOD
1. Position. A little too far from the Old Town and on the edge of the tourist attractions. Learn to use the trams and this is not a big problem. Otherwise pick a hotel in the Old Town (Stare Mesto) or the Lesser Quarter (Mala Strana)
2.No tea/coffee making facilities in the room
We could not have chosen a better hotel!

This hotel was an absolute pleasure. My partner and I like to tour European Cities by day and party by night. This hotel was perfect for our recent visit to Prague. The location was perfect. Prague is such a great walking city and this hotel is located conveniently to everything. You could walk to most attractions from her or to the Metro station which is only a block away. The staff was extremely hospitable and accepting. Their English was excellent. The breakfast was nutritious and filling and the lounge was comfortable and inviting after a long day of sight-seeing. The room was spacious as well as the bath. We like to take quick "party-naps" after the day and before going out. It was quite and comforting. I am so pleased with our choice of this hotel. Service was professional and comfortable. Thanks!
Nice Hotel, central and good value
by TripAdvisor Member pippippooray
We chose this hotel because it was fairly central and fairly inexpensive, and we were pleased with the choice and would go back. It was lovely, the staff were friendly - although the breakfast waiting staff appeared to pride themselves on almost robot-like service - and the bar a friendly and fun place to stop for a drink on returning to the hotel. Its very close to Wenceslas Square, but it has to be said the square is not a beautiful part of town, but prague is small enough to walk easily into the historic bits and the tube and tram systems are straightforward. Some of the streets nearby looked a little bit down at heel and had some dodgy looking shops on them but the hotel itself is on a nice enough but busy street. the rooms were lovely, clean, etc and we were hardly in the hotel other than at breakfast because there was so much to see in the town. Don't miss Fred and Ginger on the river if you like modern architecture. We liked the metronome at the top of the hill, and its a lovely walk up there - we went at dusk - the park was full of people and didnt look dangerous and the dusk view of the city was well worth it. The road up - Pariska street or something similar has loads of designer shops on, is rather lovely. travel in from the airport is very cheap by public transport - if you dont have too much luggage to carry, it was definitely worth it.
Fantastic Hotel Friendly Staff

We stayed from 14th February to 16th February 2006, we had a fantastic time at this hotel, the rooms are very large and clean, the breakfast is fantastic, following a previous report about the early closing of the bar we were arriving back at the hotel about 10.30pm and the bar stayed open untill we decided to go to bed, never before 12.30am so this seems to be if there are people in the bar it will stay open, the down side no tea and coffee making or ironing in your rooms, there was a safe and mini bar with prices quite low. The City of Prague is one City not to miss the architecture and people of Prague are fantastic, we will go back this year and stay at this Hotel. Go and see the changing of the guard at the castle.

Which Synagoge is the one I am looking for, please?
by Helena1962
Hello fellow travellers!
Many years ago, I visited Prague for the first time. It was in the very early 80's. Useless to say that I loved the city!
I remember clearly being at the astronomical watch and being hungry. And all of a sudden I became the smell of cooked food. So I followed my nose and not far away I arrived into a Synagoge. I remember that once you enter the building there were (at least) two doors. One was leading to the synagoge itself, were people could pray. And the second one was a sort or restaurant with kosher food. Everybody could eat there, and so did I. You just had to pay for it, but it was very affordable.
As it was really crowed with people eating, I supposed it was a very popular place to eat among the jewish community in Prague.
I can't imagine that there is not anymore a possibility to eat there.
Does anybody knows which Synagoge this could be?
Thank you very much!
My best wishes,
Helena

Hi Helena, A quick search makes me think you're looking for the High Synagogue, called this way because it's located on 2nd level of a building. There is a Kosher restaurant on the 1st level, in an attached building if I understand correctly.
Check out this link, it's got a good photo and how-to-get-there explanation.

I read about other synagogues in Prague:
Old-New Synagogue
Klaus Synagogue
Pinkas Synagogue
Spanish Synagogue
but none of these mentioned an adjacent restaurant.
Hope that's what you're looking for! Cheers!

Most of the synagogues mentioned above are no longer functioning for services. Pinkas synagague, for example, is a very moving memorial to those who died in the Holocaust.
I think you may have visited the Old-New synagogue (Staranova), which is the only one to have had continuous services (apart from during the Occupation).
As you visited in the early 80s, it is quite possible that the synagogue at that time had a restaurant for the community.

Would it have been one of the synagogues in the Jewish Quarter not far from the cemetery and the Jewish Museum. I remember eating there after a tour of the cemetery and museum. I think it was the Jewish community center. Here is a website where there are a few synagogues listed with photos.

The High Synagogue I mentioned was founded by Mordechai Maisel and is also known as the Maisel Synagogue. It *is* in Josefov, the former Jewish quarter. The link I gave provides details, including how to get to the adjacent restaurant, and the former and actual vocation of the Synagogue.

Dear Leics, ForestQueenNYC and Alza,
thank you very much all of you, indeed for your help.
Next week I'll be there again and I will definetely check if it is the High or the Old-New synagoge.
But I really apreciate the hint from ForestQueen, as she sais, she has eaten there too. In fact, my memories are already almost 30 years old (I start feeling as old as all these synagoges!) and it could have happen, that they do not serve meals any longer. But if she also ate there, it means they still do offer meals! Great!
So, once more thank you very much for your help!
My bet wishes,
Helena

Very welcome Helena! Pictures in links provided should help you remember.
Old-new Synagogue (Staronovà Synagoga) is at Cervena 250/2 Street in Josefov.
High Synagogue, aka Maiselova Synagogue, is at Maiselova 63/10 in Josefov, very near the Old-new one. Slightly SOUTH of it, below Sirokà Street but before Jàchymova Street.
Fact that Maiselova Synagogue or an adjacent building served meals in the past is no guarantee that it still does today though. The same applies to any Synagogue that used to serve meals. :)
Enjoy your return trip to Prague!
