The Tourist office is Great
Go to the tourist office if you need help with anything. They have a huge book full of accomodation to pick from. And they speak and they will call the place for you for around a dollar. It's right on the square.

I'm wanting to go from Munich to Ceske Budejovice on 9 Oct. The trains all seem to leave very late at night and arrive the next morning. I looked at routes through Prague, Linz, and Salzburg. I'd really like to go during the day. Is this possible? How about a bus and where would I find those schedules? Thanks!

I'm not exactly a beer expert, in fact I rarely drink the stuff, so this is just what I've read. Budvar beer, who's original German name was Budweiser, apparently bears no resemblence to the beer sold under the Budweiser label in the US, the American version said to be far inferior to the Czech brand. Tthey are linked, well sort of, German brewer Adolphus Busch adopted the name for his beer when he moved to the US thinking German beers sold better. That predated when the Czech brewers started brewing their version of Budweiser by 6 years, the Czechs and American brewers came to an agreement that the Czechs could call theirs the "original Budweiser" and the Americans could still use the name except for in Europe. The Rough Guide says that you can buy Budvar beer in the US, it's bottled under the name Czechvar. You can try Budvar at restaurants in Ceske Budejovice, the 1st place served Pilsner Urquell but Pavlac served Budvar.
Kratochvile - built for Vilem von Rosenberg
who was a rich merchant and wanted to have a summercastle in the Italian Renaissance style.
So he ordered this castle from his italian architect Baltazar Maggi di Arogno.
The whole area is rather muddy and the castle is built on thousands of oak-trunks (like in Venice). These trunks have to be kept wet in order to be strong enough to hold the heavy building. That is one of the reasons, why the artificial lake around the castle had to constructed, and will permanentely be supplied with sufficient water.
The Black Tower is build by the Architects Hans Spatz, Lorenz and Vincent Fugeral
Visitors fee is collected at the top of the tower
Adults are charged 20 kc, kids 10kc, "Zvyhodnene vstupne" - 15 kk ( help I need a translator here!!)
You can aswell rent a binocular but passport is necessary - fee 10kc for 15 minutes
As I love doors , here is a beautiful dunjeon door leading to the steep worn out stairway of the black tower .
