Cesky Krumlov in June

by parabill

I am going to Cesky Krumlov in June 08. Accommodations seem a little high. Can anyone suggest apartments, pensiones, B&B or hostels which are well located and reasonable. Alos, any tips are welcome.

The Pension Panorama is the best value in the city. My Cesky Krumlov page ( accomodations ) gives detailed information, and a link to the city website from which you can make reservations, and a detailed map to the pension. Their prices are very affordable.

Travel Tips for Cesky Krumlov

If you're going in July...

by riika

It can get super hot and humid in July so make sure you're packed with tank tops, short, and a bathing suit for swiming in the river! Do bring comfortable shoes and sandals for all that walking on cobblestone streets! :)

If You Drive...

by JetlagCity

We looked into several options for getting here from Prague, and decided that hiring a guide for the day to drive us here would make the best use of our limited time. Even with driving, it took 3 hours to get here, and our guide was flying down that road! If you drive, park in one of the parking lots around the edge of town - it would be very difficult and not fun to maneuver a car through Cesky Krumlov's very narrow, cobblestoned streets. It's just a small village, so you can park at the edge of town and walk into the center easily.

The train schedule showed the same trip taking up to 5 hours(!), so if you're looking for public transportation, I'd go for the bus, which is faster.

It was a beautiful drive, through rolling hills and pastures, with lots of color in the trees in October. We saw lots of deer.

Step back in time--Traditional Medieval Cuisine!

Wow! This restaurant features dishes prepared with medeival recipes and the freshest local ingredients. It is located right by the river that runs throught the town. They also serve Czech's oldest beer: Eggeberg. Gruel with bulgar wheat, honey, almonds and cinnamon.

Castle Gardens

by Nadia7

The Baroque Castle Gardens (Zamecka zahrada in Czech) founded in the 17th century creates an integral, in fact the largest, part of the entire castle complex. It is situated on the rise and slope adjacent to the complex of castle buildings around the Vth Courtyard of Èeský Krumlov Castle from the southwestern side.
The Castle Gardens are some of the largest in Central Europe and have, over the years been fashioned from the Baroque to the Rococo, then Classicist and finally into an English garden in the 19th century. Elements of all styles remain and the gardens are dominated by the Rococo Bellaria summerhouse and cascading fountain. The 17th century Baroque gardens form the largest part of the entire castle complex. The castle gardens and courtyards can be explored for free.

Cesky Krumlov Castle: Bear Pit

by monkeytrousers

At the entrance to the castle, make sure you look over the bridge to see the bear pit. Bears have been in the pit ever since the Rozmberks took over the castle as they believed the bears were a symbol of strength and protect the castle. This is why a bear appears on the Cesky Krumlov town emblem and the Rozemberks family crest. The bears looked very healthy when I saw them but you can see some of the former inhabitants on the castle appartment tours.
