Frescoes
by JetlagCity
Beautiful frescoes and sgraffito cover many of the pastel buildings both in town and within the castle complex. Just wandering through the streets, seemingly untouched by time, soaking up the charming scenery, is my favorite memory from here, along with our lunch at Satlava. Cesky Krumlov has changed so little over the centuries that it's been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
a clever bridge into the garden
by globetrott
These bridges are simply a very clever way of beeing able to walk directely from the castle into the gardens.
That way the different levels of the rock did not matter at all for the old knights and castle-owners...
...while visitors have to walk up steep paths and several stairs in order to get to the Baroque Gardens !

The Castle, of Course!
by JetlagCity
Cesky Krumlov boasts the second biggest castle in the country, after Prazky Hrad in Prague. Forty buildings make up the bulky, brooding castle complex, which sprawls over two rocky hills at the edge of town. It dates back to the 1200's, with numerous parts added to it over the centuries. The aristocratic Rozmberk, Schwarzenberg, and Habsburg families ruled from here.
I was very disappointed to learn that the castle was closed during the off-season, including October, when we were there. In the summer you can take tours of it. We were able to wander around the grounds, though, including seeing the old moat, which for centuries has housed a few bears.
Look at that evil-looking dark cloud - I still can't believe it didn't rain on us when we were there!
The Location...

These are the photos taken by me around Cesky Krumlov !
Being tipped as one of the most beautiful medieval town in Europe ! Added to UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE LIST in 1992.
The chateau here is the 2nd largest in Czech Republic after Prague's.
Wander around the cobble-stoned streets around Cesky Krumlov !
Location :
The mighty complex of the castle is erected on the rock promontory which has been sculpted by the Vltava river from the southern side and by Pole?nice stream from the northern side. The castle towers proudly above the refined Renaissance and Baroque burgher architecture of the town below. The town, together with the magnificent Church of St.Vitus and the complex of the castle, creates an unique feature of the whole region. Like a precious pearl, the town of Cesky Krumlov is situated in the valley surrounded with the massif of Blansko Forest to the north and the undulating foothills of ?umava to the south and west.
