3 nights - too much?

by mangrove

Hi,

I will be travelling to Cesky Krumlov in May. I have 3 nights of accommodation booked. Is that too much? What is there to do in CK?

I'm actually only spending two nights in Vienna right before and I'm considering switching it around. Spending 3 nights in Vienna and 2 in CK.

If you have an opinion, let me know.

Thanks a lot!

Hi. Cesky Krumlov is a lovely place but I think that 3 nights would be more than needed to visit the castle, museum and walk around the town and along by the river; after that there's little else to do. Having visited both places I think you'd find more to enjoy in Vienna.

Lots to see in Vienna and surrounding areas. Three nights would be better.

however cesky krumlov is really beautiful, i must admit that it would probably be better to spend 3 nights in vienna. it is bigger and there is more to see.

Thanks so much, you've helped a lot.

I've been to Vienna before so what I might do is stop in Salzburg for one night in between and reduce my stay in Cesky Krumlov to 2 nights.

:)

3 nights is definately too much. Krumlov is fascinating, but small and compact. Even one night would be enough for live roma (gypsy) music and dancing. Too many fascinating places to visit in Chechia and Austria for filling your time.

Travel Tips for Cesky Krumlov

costumes of all kinds

by globetrott

Come in a traditional costume - there are NO limits to your phantasy :

sophisticated - great - simple...

everybody is wellcome and will not need to pay an entrancefee..
(I am not sure, if this applies for foreigners as well, but I could see, that ALL visitors in these costumes were not asked to show a ticket at the entrance, but simply walked through.

The Museum of Torture

by globetrott

The museum of torture is built into the town-hall.
It is not really my kind of museum, but it is obviously interesting for plenty of other people.
Simply go to the main square on the peninsula, and look for the townhall !

Hearty Czech Food

by monkeytrousers about Eggenberg Brewery Restraurant

This restraurant is right next door to the brewery and serves lots of Czech and regional dishes at a fair price but of great quality. I had the Viennese roast beef with crushed onions and I can honestly say it was the best tasting beef Ive ever tasted.

The Cascade Fountain in Castle Gardens

by longsanborn

The cascade fountain was built in 1750 - 1765. The original statues are kept in the castle Lapidary while the copies can be seen in their original places. There is a sculpture of the goddess Amphitrite with a dolphin and Triton, on the highest part of the fountain. Neptune, the god of the sea and a nymph with a faun opposite him, are resting on the lower level of the fountain.

The cascade fountain continues as a balustrade decorated with stone vases and statues representing the 4 seasons.

The Origin...

These are the photos taken by me around Cesky Krumlov !
Being tipped as one of the most beautiful medieval town in Europe ! Added to UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE LIST in 1992.
The chateau here is the 2nd largest in Czech Republic after Prague's.

Name Origin :
The name of the castle Krumlov originated from Latin expression castrum Crumnau or ancient German Crumbenowe. It reflects the configuration of the landscape - krumben ouwe means the place on the rugged meadow. The Cesky Krumlov Castle was mentioned for the first time by an Austrian knight minnesinger Ulrich of Lichtenstein in his poem "Der Frauendienst" which dates back between the years 1240 and 1242.

The first written form of the name of Crumbenowe is included in a document of Austrian and Styrian Duke Otakar from 1253. At that time, Krumlov was the seat of V?tek of Krumlov who belonged to the powerful noble family of Witigonen. The expression "?esk?" has been used in connection with Krumlov since the middle of the 15th century.
