it's more like an apartment

I was greeted by a very friendly staff who turned out to be cleaning rooms. She showed me my room in no time and although she did not speak English well, the reception I got from her was quite warm and the check in was smooth. The room was spacious - the bathroom had some marble tiles, the living room and furniture is quite impressive. Solid wood, interior design was my taste. It has a flat screen tv, nice table lamps which were bright enough for reading, wooden floor, nice curtains.

Buffet breakfast was ample.

Unique Quality: The pension is near the Plesivec stairs which gives you a very nice view of the town. As you reach the street, the bridge is just a stone away and in here, you'll almost catch your breath when you look at the surroundings. From there, you can explore the churches and the castle. Awesome!

Location is great. Price is very good. Service is impressive. Plus point is: they display some souvenirs in their glass cabinet at the reception - so if you don't like going to the shops, you can find something right there and then.

Budapest to CK by car??

by rayoren

We will be in Budapest in August and will be heading to Prague via CK. We are considering renting a car and driving. Can anyone provide any feedback, suggestions or opinion on driving?

No problem with renting a car. The roads are in great shape. However, you must have a permit to drive on an autobahn, although you can make the trip without driving on an autobahn. Always park in a secure lot, as you may regret not doing so.

Travel Tips for Cesky Krumlov

The Vltava River

by JetlagCity

The Vltava River (the same one that flows through Prague in the north) is an integral part of the town, and there are several pedestrian bridges crossing it. It curves back on itself so much here that it almost forms a complete circle, and the town was originally built on the peninsula in the middle. The name of the town refers back to the bend in the river, too. In summer lots of people, both local and tourists, rent canoes from here and float downstream.

The knight of Rozmberk.

by Roeffie

Latran 39

The Knight standing on the building is the Knight of Rozmberk. The Rosenberg or Rozmberk family was of great influence to the town.

This is a three story building with plain facade with two axes, with a Renaissance label molding on the ground floor. It has a Renaissance gable with vertical cornices and small pillars ending in a Venetian vaulted shield. The facade has letter-shaped sgraffito and a mural painting of the so-called Rosenberg rider. The house has a double-pitched shingle roof. On the left side of the narrow courtyard is a vaulted gallery.

get there by Kayak

by globetrott

Kayaking seems to be very popular in Czechia, as I could watch plenty of boats arriving the old traditional way.
Around the peninsula there are 4 smaller cascades, and who-ever was experienced could go down them easily without any problem.

a very few had problems and fell into the water, but it is not more than 1 meter deep, so simply make sure, your belongings are packed safely !
As you may see, just under the castle there is a sandbank, where you may land your canoe and explore the place !

The Castle

by iwys

Founded in the early thirteenth century, Cesky Krumlov Castle is one of the biggest and most imposing in Central Europe. With 40 buildings, it is second only in size, in the Czech Republic, to Prague Castle.

It has everything you would expect from a Bohemian castle: a moat, formidable walls and a fairytale tower. The first reference to Cesky Krumlov Castle was in a poem written by Ulrich of Lichtenstein in 1242.

Cesky Krumlov Castle: Round Tower

by monkeytrousers

The round tower looks more like a rocket ship than an integral peice of the castle and despite its small size still manages to dominate the skyline of Cesky Krumlov because of its sheer beauty and colourful quirkyness.

For 30 Kc you can climb up to the top for a panoramic view of the town and surrounding area. There is also a nice wooden model halfway up of the tower.
