Easy travel from Budapest to Cesky Krumlov?

by skuhlke

Hi, we will be in Budapest until March 27, and looking for a good way to get to Cesky Krumlov (from Budapest) before we venture onto Prague.

Does anyone haveany suggestions for a quick and easy route from Budapest to Cesky Krumlov? Please let me know when you can, thanks!

Hiya Scott

you could get one of the 4 or 5 trains from Budapest to Linz and then a bus from there to Cesky Krumlov.

We went by car from Linz but people we met used the shuttle bus; http://www.shuttlelobo.cz./

Regards

Mark

You need to book the shuttle bus in advance (via the site) so you will need to work out the train you want, which you can do via this excellent site;

It will be much more scenic and much cheaper to go via Bratislava-Brno-Havlickuv Brod.

If you want to go back to Budapest, just buy Budapest-Kuty round-trip ticket.

If you do not want to go back to Budapest:
- buy in Budapest a Budapest-Sturovo train ticket (round-trip is 6 Euro, one-way is more, 9 Euro!)
- and on the train buy Sturovo-Kuty ticket from the Slovak conductor (about 10 Euro)
- Once in Czech Republic, buy Breclav - Cesky Krumlov ticket for 305 Crowns from Czech conductor.

This is by far the cheapest way. You will need to change trains twice: once in Brno and once in Ceske Budejovice.

Start Budapest: 05:30
Arrive Brno: 09:40

Start Brno: 11:20
Arrive Ceske Budejovice: 15:48

Start Ceske Budejovice: 17:13
Arrive Cesky Krumlov: 18:13

OR:

Start Budapest: 09:30
Arrive Brno: 13:40

Start Brno: 15:20
Arrive Ceske Budejovice: 19:48

Start Ceske Budejovice: 22:09
Arrive Cesky Krumlov: 22:57

If the money is not concern, "cheat": buy ASAP Budapest-München special ticket for 29 Euro/person (only EC-62 can be used!). Than you have to start 13:10 and de-train much earlier (17:52) than Munich (in Linz). Because there is Budapest-Munich "special" for 29 Euro, but there is no Budapest-Linz special.

From Linz use the shuttle as said above.

Travel Tips for Cesky Krumlov

salespeople all over the place

by globetrott

You will find traditional handicrafts and artists, selling their goods on the market and inside their shops , mainly in the streets "Kajovska" and "Sikora" and around the main square...

...and when you are lucky, you may even catch one of the medieval merchants in their great old costumes, using their CELLPHONES...
Have a look at the great arch in the back, with great ornaments in the sandstone !

Hluboka castle - 40 Km north of C.Krumlov

by globetrott

Hluboka castle is about 40 Km north of Cesky Krumlov. It was rebuilt in the
19th century and shows an excellent medieval and baroque interior.
The castle is in posession of the state and totally furnished with unique furniture, paintings, chandeliers from Murano and Bohemia....

A mean gulas!

by riika about Cikanska Jizba

Cikanska Jizba is a gypsy restaurant that serves a plate full of mouth-watering spicy gulas to perfection! It's a very cozy atmosphere I'm counting down the days until I can eat there again! Of course they have many other czech specialties as well! Don't forget the local Eggenberg beer as well! :) They also have a live gypsy music in the evenings! The gypsy gulas!

Revolving Theater!

by TandyO

The revolving theater plays a wide variety of music throughout the concert season. They only sell tickets in the castle starting one hour before the concert begins, but I recommend getting there before that because it is very popular.

While we did miss the show we were able to walk up to the gate and get some idea of what was going on. The music was incredible, and the entire theater revolves instead of having one stage where they change sets.

I'm definitely going back just to see a show here. Its worth it.

The Plague Pillar

by Nadia7

Many times a fire flashed up in this place and the lives of many women who were accused of witchcraft were ended there. The story of one gypsy girl was one of the most horrible - the girl let herself be locked in a church in Kájov and she stole a ring from the Holy Virgin. The very next day a parish clerk accused her of sacrilege. She gave the ring back, but the Jesuits from Èeský Krumlov came to hear of that. Although she was set free by the vicarage in Kájov, the Jesuits caught her, tortured her and she confessed to things she hadn't done. She was burnt to death in fire in the square at the plague pillar.
