Hlubonka castle - 8 km off C.Budovice
by globetrott
This great castle was built on a small hill overlooking the plain and the lakes in the area.
An excursion to Hlubonka might take the whole day, when you want to explore all the different tours, the old castle kitchen, the appartments of the Schwarzenberg family, the armoury chamber, the wintergarden and riding-school, the large park... Hluboka is certainly a Must, when travelling through southern Czechia
Schwarzenberg crest
by Dabs
The lower right quarter of the Schwarzenberg crest is the severed head of a Turk with his eye being plucked out by a raven in honor of Adolf von Schwarzenberg's victory over the Turks at the battle of Raab. This sculpture was outside of the castle.
nice architecture in town
by globetrott
Have a little walk in the town of Hluboka and you may see some great fassades like the one here in Art Nouveau-style:
This house was built in 1909 & Art Nouveau was THE popular way to decorate a building then.
This house is just a few meters from the street leading up to the castle & the castle hotel.
Art Nouveau in Hluboka
by globetrott
It was certainly a good living and income for some people in Hluboka in 1909, when the castle was re-constructed and plenty of people had a job and were able to re-construct their own homes into modern ones as well.
another great fassade in the village
by globetrott
This is another lovely house built in the main street of Hluboka ( where you may park your car, while visiting the castle).
I like this kind of fancy fassade, that you may see at many villages in Czechia and also in the very north of Austria ( close to the Czech border ) - in 1902 it was all just the same country and this part of Czechia was a place, where rich people from Austria had their estates and summer-houses...
