Parties on Tuesday?

by AnatolyZ

Hey dear travel pals!!
Are there normal parties o Tuesdays in Brno? Are there cheap hostels there or any other type of accomodation?

Re: Parties on Tuesday?

I don't know much about the hostels, but check with the "Tourist Information Office" when you arrive in town. I believe that there is an office at the train station, but if not there is one at the main old town square. They have a listing of accomodations in private homes, and they will find you a nice, very inexpensive room, with the service being free of charge.

actually in Brno is better to go to a party during the week, because it is student city, so i think Tuesday is totally ok. You can check some bars in our Brno pages.
Enjoy your trip!

Travel Tips for Brno

Red Church

by Astralka

..impossible to take the whole picture with my camera lenses, but you will manage ! The best part is the roof ! which is missing on this picture.. This evangelic church I pass daily on my way to work and I love this church ! It is located in the centre of the town, between the building of the Faculty of Medicine and the Court. Often there are beautiful concerts and choirs inside. When you get lost in Brno, ask for the way to the Red Church and there you find the platform where trams to all directions stop.

Personal Space

by LeeRobertAdams

As in many countries in Central and Eastern Europe, notions of personal space in the Czech Republic may differ from what you're used to back home.

This is particularly puzzling when you consider the boundaries of personal space are usually expected to diminish in densely populated urban areas. This wouldn't seem to apply to the Czech Republic, as the population of the whole country is around 10.5 million.

Yet don't be alarmed to find people standing literally in your face, for no clear reason. This seems to go hand in hand with their apparent lack of spatial awareness - it is not uncommon to be walking down the street and have someone stroll randomly into your path, or abruptly veer off their path straight into you.

This seems to be a common trait in all countries of the former Eastern Bloc, although perhaps the most boisterous personal space invaders I've met are the Russians - never have I been so generally jostled, prodded, nudged, fondled and shoulder-barged than when I was teaching Russian students English. Draw your own conclusions!

If you don't know what MotoGP is then it was a mistake to click on this link.

MotoGP is currently the most exciting form of motorised sport in the world, forget cars of any kind and the boring F1!

The MotoGP "circus" comes to Brno in the third week of August every year to race on the new(ish) automotodrom to the west of the city near Rosice. The area quickly fills with visitors from all across Europe who all come to watch the racing at this exciting track.

As well as having a track that makes the riders work hard, the contour of the track shows a rise/fall of 74m. For westerners the ticket price is very cheap, the beer is very cheap……

Check out the website for more details: If you don't know what MotoGP is then it was a mistake to click on this link.: Beer, food, shades, sun hat and something to sit on.

Ivancicky Viadukt by Eifel

by Kettleman

Ivancicky viadukt - an iron bridge across the Jihlava river about 5kms south-east of Ivancice, itself about 20kms south-west of Brno.

Why? M. Eifel designed and built this before he moved onto bigger things in Paris!

Wine in Glass, Pillows on Ceiling

by LeeRobertAdams about Kavarna Trojka

Trojka is a gorgeously vaulted street level cafe bar in central Brno that is frequented by the student and creative circle.

Deep window bays offer sofas and relaxing opportunities, with a pleasant view out onto Dominikanska, otherwise it's go elbow to elbow with the rest of the crowd in the drinking, smoking and chatting stakes. Books on the shelf, beer in the mug, student art on the walls, wine down the throat, pillows on the ceiling.

There is also a non-smoking section, and a pleasant outdoor seating area in the courtyard out back in the warm months. Trojka also offers a full range of live music, DJs and performances several times a week.

The atmosphere is pretty relaxed, although it does get very smoky and boozy late on - I wouldn't be surprised if someone's overdone it before and tried setting their head down on one of those pillows on the ceiling!

Might be a bit difficult to blend in if you aren't cut from that type of cloth, but this is a top hangout for the creatively minded in Brno. Anything goes, preferably a bit grubby.
